    James b 1820 I don't have his Bap date

    Samuel 2 Oct 1825 d April 1827
    Jane 1830 d Sep 1831
    Ann 1830 d Sep 1831

It appears they only have Huntingdonshire burials,
    and marriages 1754-1837

I have checked some of he baps you have listed and they do not even have the transcriptions.

That is him Thanks AM. I have just sent an email to the lady who put that info in the Monaropioneers Newsletter on the Dennis family to let her know that James was a convict.

I have just been able to get into his conduct record on Tasmania Names Index.
He was single and had been imprisoned 8 times for various things one for desertion. His character was bad. He was sentenced to Norfolk Island and sent 9 March 1852 arriving back in VDL 1855. Ticket of leave 1858 but revoked in 1859. Conditional Pardon granted 3 April 1860.

When the index comes up just enter his name in the little search bar at the top. No need to put anything else in. Hit the little search thingy to the right.
All James Dennis' will come up with a year underneath. Click on the one you want, in this case it will say 'Convict 1842'. Then it will show some records. The one you want most is the one that starts with CON. Click on that and the page of his conduct book with come up. You may have to scroll down the page a bit. Bob's your uncle.
If you have trouble I'll just put the link here for you.
The writing might need a bit of deciphering. It's terrible.

Have you seen newspaper reports of his indictment in 1842 for robbery of a youth -along with his co-accused?

Just had a quick read of that Sue, seems to be a mixup between newspaper report & that of the above when referring to the robbed chappy. His name is said to be Thomas Ashpole & the convicted co-accused was John Howard. :)

p.s. there was another James Dennis busy about the same time 1841 in Durham. I wondered of he moved about a bit.?

..we are researchers & reporters on past persons are we not?

I think the name is 'Thomas Ashenole', -not too bad really. The initial "T" is a bit slanty.

In 1837 a James Dennis appears in the County of Huntingdonshire Register of all Person Charged with Indictable Offences, age 16 and was convicted of Larceny, he received 7 days imprisonment and whipped.
