The following link was hghlighted to me today and I thought that, should you have London ancestors who lived in alleys or passageways, you might find it of interest. That's brought back a few memories Jan. When we lived just outside London we would often go for a stroll around London of a Sunday morning. I think I've wandered up most of those - and spent a fair few pennies in the Cecil Court bookshops........ I had no idea about the origin of some of the names, so thank you.
A very interesting site, thanks Jan. A pity the Wollongong council don't produce a list of of how creeks and bridges got their names, e.g. there's a creek close by to my place, Wharton's Creek, often thought, so who was Wharton, same thing with other creeks and bridges.
Fans of London's alleys, courts and passages will also be interested in... http://www.ianvisits.co.uk/london-alleys/
Perhaps Sue, when she has left you hanging in suspense long enough, will put the details she sent me in a separate post in Chatterbox Corner but then .....
