Just picking brains, is it possible to obtain a divorce record from the 1980's, I am a non-direct relative? Not dealt with divorce records yet so may seem a stupid question. Thanks Liane
My only experience is of having one. A Divorce that is. And only one......so far. It is a Court Record and, as such, should be available from the Court that issued it. Both the Decree Nisi, and the the Decree Absolute. However, I can't see that it would provide much information as, from memory, it just identifies the Court, the date, and the (current) names of the two parties involved + plus possibly the Grounds but in the shortest of terms.
Well I don't quite know how to improve my previous posting (4) if the divorce was in England. Jellylegs' post gives the information on how to track down a divorce in Scotland or Northern Ireland. N.B. It would be unusual to find any notification of a divorce in a newspaper unless it was quite out of the ordinary.
Flook - I'm sorry. Saw Ken R.'s response and penned a reply but forgot to hit post. Came back 10 minutes later and posted it. Went out for a few minutes, came back and you had replied. You don't need to improve on your posting #4
