At the marriage of Robert Henry Lewis and Martha Dare at St Mary's Paddington on 21 January 1844 (Ancestry London marriages), one of the witnesses is (can't decipher) Henry Tapp. Can anyone make out what the first name is please (if it is a name)? Have I read 'Henry Tapp' right anyway? (although Tapp seems to be quite a common surname).

Then, of course, can anyone find him mentioned elsewhere?

Looks like Mr at a quick glance, but it could be and H, though that would be a strange way to sign a name.

I agree with Henry Tapp though.

I agree it does look like Mr Henry Tapp.

There are 2 men named Henry Tapp on the 1841 in London, old enough to be witnesses
One age 50 in Carter Lane, St Mary Magdelen
    HO107 piece722 book8 folio3 page5
The other age 30 in Adam and Eve Court, St Marylebone
HO107 piece675 book11 folio2 page 35 - this Henry's marriage is also on Anc. but it looks like he did not 'sign', so I cannot compare the signatures

Thank you both. I had it as Mr when I first found it many moons ago but I wanted to get other opinions. It is hard to say which one he is (I've now also found another living in Paddington Street, Marylebone. [HO107/680/5/7/6]) but, again, it's not possible to say if he is mine either.

However could someone look at the marriage of Henry Tapp and Isabella Armitage, Bethnal Green, 5 July 1852, and tell me if you think this one fits my original?

Pretty good match I would say.
