In a newspaper report dated 16th July 1814 I found this
I tried looking for a conflict that ended around this time. I thought it may have been the war of 1812 but that didn't end till 24th December 1814. The news of which took 2 months to reach England.

Anyone know which conflict it may have been?

The Napoleonic War ended in 1814 - by which time Wellington's army had invaded France from the south. Napoleon adicated, although he subsequently escaped from Elba prior to his final and utter defeat at Waterloo in June 1815.

Thank you Euryalus, I shall see if I can find any more info on the celebrations in the district.
