Folks, My GG Grandfather,William Wain Butcher, former Master in the Royal Navy died in 1839.A kind lady in Ohio transcribed the will for me. http://historicalgleanings.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/william-wain-butcher-1830-windermere.html Son John had died in Feb 1838,four other children were still living in Windermere. How would i trace properties owned by William, and how disposed of and monies paid to other children? Regards, Eric
It looks as if Alice BUTCHER, widow, died on 29 December 1859 at Bowness and according to the National Probate Calendar her Will with a Codicil was proved at Carlisle on 9 June 1860 by Richard WILSON of Windermere, Solicitor & County Coroner, one of the Executors. Effects under £600. You could get a copy of her Will and see what clues that gives you. Janet
Janet, Her will is one i have listed to obtain at Carlisle, along with two of her children. Thanks, Eric
