I don't know whether any of you (in Blighty) watched this Channel 4 programme the other night? We recorded it and watched it yesterday evening, and what an extraordinary and moving programme it was. As Channel 4 said "Extraordinary footage has been found in the basement of Manchester Town Hall: messages recorded on film from British soldiers in Burma in World War II, to their loved ones back home". http://www. channel4.com/programmes/messages-home-lost-films-of-the-british-army North West Film Archives have this page http://www. nwfa.mmu.ac.uk/blighty/index.php where you can search the database or watch the Calling Blighty films
Fist one required me to turn off parental controls then create a 'pin' & so forth, shall try it later. 2nd one led me to a blank page, another try for later.
I seem to be able to get straight in to any of the films, maybe it's a problem if you aren't 'over here'?
Yes, I watched it midweek on 'catch up'. Dad was in Burma, of course - my uncle too. My uncle was a Chindit, and received the MM. I was in tears by the end. At least their families had something to remember them by - wonderful that the films have been found again.
I found "Calling Blighty" by googling, but not the other all I could see was a trailer forthe channel 4 episode. Lovely tho', to see so many men in uniform without 'moustaches'!!
