Does anyone have access to the book "Changing Faces: A History of Langford Budville"? It was compiled by Marjorie Stockley and published in 2012.
WorldCat says there is a copy at The British Library, St. Pancras, London, NW1 2DB United Kingdom Code: http://explore.bl.uk/primo_library/libweb/action/search.do?vid=BLVU1&fn=search&vl(freeText0)=9780956740243
Can you get it via the inter-library lending scheme - although I think there is a fair charge for that these days.
Thank you all for your replies. I just wanted a reference checked but I'll now try and buy a copy if I can (as a retired librarian I know well how these ILL charges have appeared and risen over the years. Luckily they're not yet charging the full economic cost which is very much more than the £6.00 quoted).
http://www.langfordbudvillevillage.co.uk/history.html For £6.00 you might be able to buy one if you're quick Or there's a phone number for the author who might be able to help?
The charges at my local university when up when they changed the description from Inter Library Loans to Document Supply!! However their charges are a little less than the local public library, Uni charges £5.00, when I first worked in the Uni library ILL was free to library members, then Uni's became businesses, sigh!
Yup, thank you Eve - that's the one I came across as well. Sitting here with my fingers crossed awaiting a reply.
Well I received a brand new copy today and as it's now discounted, it only cost £6 + p&p. It looks really good; I'm constantly amazed at how professionally 'home-grown' village histories are researched and presented. Very happy.
Hi Flook - British Newspaper archives emailed a couple of days ago that they have new records for Shepton Mallett Journal - quite a few references to Langford Budville come up.
Meandering through the interwebby for war memorials in Herts and Beds, I ended up diverted to a site called hellfirecorner.co.uk and there randomly found a pic of the Roll of Honour for Langford Budville !! - any use? http://www.hellfirecorner dot co dot uk/tucker/tuckerroll.htm
That's kind of you to flag up this site. I've had a look through it and my lot aren't mentioned; I know that many of them had already migrated to Taunton by this time. But thank you for posting the link - it makes interesting reading in any case.
Just to say that Ancestry have today expanded their listings of Somerset parish registers and Langford Budville's are now there in all their (reasonably legible) glory. What with the St Pancras Medical Officer of Health publishing a list of Fried Fish Shops in his 1908 report which answered another query of mine, I'm having a pretty good day.
