Just joined after seeing the article on Parish Chest, I'm looking forward to getting to know people.

I've been browsing around the forums and I've just spent an hilarious five minutes reading all about the trials and tribulations of vacuum cleaners.

I've been researching family history for a while now, my own family is quite widespread but my husband's paternal line has lived in the same Somerset village/town since the mid 1800's so it is very interesting sorting out all the inter marrying!

I am so pleased that the forum has given you a giggle already - we do try to have a bit of fun along with the more serious stuff. ;) It is great when a family doesn't move for hundreds of years, but trying to sort them all out can be rather like knitting fog....

Thank you for your welcome everyone, now all I have to do is to successfully upload an Avatar, I've had several attempts but just end up with a little red cross in the corner of the box - any tips anyone?
 
Hi Madge - it might be because the image is too big. What is the file size?

We appear to have a glitch in the system at the moment. :( As soon as it is fixed, I will let you know.

Welcome to TD. Nothing funny about vacuum cleaners. They are scary things with a mind of their own. Think of the Stephen King book Christine. 8-)

Welcome Madge. Actually I gave the cleaner what for yesterday..I filled it full of plaster dust while I was decorating. It did try to trip me over and reared up to try to bite me when I gave its lead a sly tweak while it wasn't looking. Mind you I treated it to a fresh bag later and it seems to have forgiven me. It even allowed me to put its cable all the way in. It probably knows that I'm trying to buy it a new bumper because the current one is marking all the furniture it tries to hide under. I quite like the pink one with little elephants on.

Morning all, yet more nice friendly comments, I like it here. Thanks for the comments on my avatar, unfortunately back in April our lovely Goldie was diagnosed with skin cancer and given between three weeks and six months to live, he is only eleven so we were devastated. He is still with us, but his lovely fur is so thin with lots of bald patches it is heart breaking, but he is still enjoying his walks and playing with his doggie friends, so we are making sure that he enjoys the coming weeks. As soon as he starts to suffer we'll know that the time has come to call the vet, no matter what our feelings are!

I have two vacuums, a Vax which is very light but doesn't hold much fur from my two dogs and a nice pink girly Hettie that I talk to as I lead her around! :rolleyes:
 
We have Hetty's brother Harry - allegedly best for dog hair. Unfortunately we lost our dog ( age 17+) a few week after we bought the vac.
