Dear Scotchman. Thank you so much for your reply. Forgive my delay in getting back to you as I've been really busy with work. May I ask if you have managed to find anything else re the NATIONS? Best wishes Polly
I haven't been getting email notifications do haven't seen your posts. Could you please tell me where they are or send me a link? Many thanks again.
Hi my Grandmother is a Nation. She is orginally from Westmoreland, Jamaica. Still residing in Jamaica. Her name is Consie Nation; she married an Irving. Her brothers were named John and Fred Nation. I m trying to get more information about her family.
Hi Nicke, welcome. We have our very own Caribbean specialist on board here so maybe she will be along shortly to give you a hand. We have a separate thread under Non UK Questions, Caribbean Islands and you can post any enquiries there. We're all ready and willing to give it a go and help you.
Hi Nicke.......welcome to the Forum. My husband grew up in Sav-la-Mar in the Parish of Westmoreland until he went to school in Kingston. But there were a lot of relatives in the parish. Nation is a tough name to search on the Jamaican Family Search website because the search engine brings up all sorts of words with "nation" in them (interNATIONal, etc.). I will have a look and also put the link out here for you. OK, had a look for both Nation and Irving, assuming Mr. Irving was Jamaican. Do you have his first name? Hard to find Irving because it is also a first name. But give it a shot. I do have other spots for you to look and the other researchers on here have access to other websites and may be able to help you. http://www.jamaicanfamilysearch.com/index.htm Ron left the Island too many years ago to remember a lot of folks...a lot came up here to Canada and also to Florida. Do you happen to know what town or area they lived in?? Westmoreland is a big parish. Also some indication of a year and or relatives with names that are not as common as Irving and Nation?? Luckily mine is Spanish, so that is much easier to find. However other relatives of ours have common names. I will have a look around once you can give me some more info in order to narrow it down.
My Grandfather was Ruben N. Irving. My great grandmother(Grandmother's Mom) was of German descent. I have to get her name from my Mom. My great grandmother passed when my Grandmother was 11 or 12 years old.
Hi Figgs, Found Consie's marriage on Family Search in 1947 Mount Herman. As she is still living I won't say anymore but her Dad was John Nation. So have look there and you will find her hubby. Ooo....hello Nicke....snap
Oh wow... Your fast. So you found this information on: http://www.jamaicanfamilysearch.com/index.htm. ?
Thanks Sue........I will take a look. Have been glued to the TV cuz I have friends (Jamaican) in Florida and some have decided to stay and are in West Palm Beach. Thank God the hurricane took a bit of a left, but it is HUGE and way wider than the State of Florida. It is now a Cat 2, down from a 5. I worry......but Ron's mother survived Andrew 25 years ago in Kingston, Jamaica. He says he has NEVER seen anything like this, and added that anyone on an Island has nowhere to be evacuated to.......scary thought!! Oh, and West Palm Beach just got hit with 2 tornadoes as a topper!! Be back when I can relax.......this is one awful, horrible storm!! My neighbours were supposed to fly to Orlando and take a Disney Cruise to the Virgin Islands yesterday......thank goodness Disney cancelled the cruise!!
Had a look at the Jamaican family Search and lots of Staffords, but no Fanny so far. How that site works is it treats "Fanny" and "Stafford" separately which drives me up the wall, lol. No way, like Google, to keep them as one. Archie's Mum found your folks on the Mormon/LDS site........that is www.familysearch.org. Give that a try.
Thanks Heather. Didn't think to explain. I should be on the other end of a vacuum cleaner so best get back to it. I saw the devastation in the Carribean. Horrible. I guess some of our charity blankets will be winging their way over there shortly. Best get knitting. They go where needed anywhere in the world.
Archie's Mum found your folks on the Mormon/LDS site........that is www.familysearch.org. Give that a try.[/QUOTE] OK, that is your Consie Nation's marriage to Mr. Irving. Because of privacy laws if they are still alive, I don't want to put the information out on a public forum. Nothing untoward......but just the way it works. They did marry in 1947 at Mount Hermon. Hubby thinks that could be the name of a "house". Doesn't recognise it as a town. A lot of the old homes have names....his dad's was "Olde Yarde" for instance. Anyway, join up on the Mormon free search site and put in the information you gave us and she will pop up at the top of the list. There are a lot of "Nations" on the Island, lol. If you need help, let us know. Or I could send you the info by private message. Btw, the actual marriage certificate is on there and you will see more details and their signatures and relatives. Have fun. Btw, you mentioned the great-grandmother was of German descent??? There is a very distinct area of Jamaica where the Germans settled after 1834. Called Seaford Town. Was she white? They tended to stick to themselves from what I understand and some married into my husband's family. Just a thought if you are looking for her. A lot of Germans came to Jamaica after slavery was abolished in 1834, just so you know the history of the "Seaford Town Germans" should she turn out to be one of them.
Again on Family Search Frances Stafford 23 Feb 1892 Bethel Town, Westmoreland, father George Stafford, mother Jane Stafford Stafford. Now was this double barrel Stafford an error or was Jane also a Stafford before marriage.
