John DAVIES Born 6th October 1876 Cwmliine Cemmes
    Father Thomas Harries DAVIES
    Mother Margaret EVANS
Sister Mary DAVIES born 16th Sept 1878 Cwmlline Cemmes

Dad Thomas Died 22 June 1879

1881 Census John and Mary are living with their mothers sister and her husband in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton surname spelt DAVIS (RG11/2811/79/21) and their mother is living as an in house servant not far away.

1891 Census John and Mary are living with their mother and her new husband Samuel PODMORE, and half brothers and sisters, surname again spelt DAVIS. still in Wolverhampton. (RG12/2226/65/11) their ages are out by two years on this census.

After that I cannot find any trace of John DAVIES (DAVIS).

    Has he died?
    Got married?
    been imprisoned ?

And should this post be under Staffordshire?

Depending on when and where the records were taken it has been spelt in a number of ways, Cammaes, Cemmas, Cemmaes. As has Cwmlline. on the modern maps it is Cwm-Llinau on the a470 between Machynlleth and Mallwyd

Goodness knows where he is! I have searched high and low.... :headbang:

I see that in the 1881 census, his place of birth is recorded as Machynlleth, although the transcriber gave up on that one and used the birth place of John's aunt above - Llanfair...

I've been searching for Machynlleth, as that is possibly more likely to be a recorded place of birth on records. He is proving illusive so far.

A John Davies keeps coming up on Graisley Lane, Wednesfield, on the electoral rolls.

WRL, I think Wolverhampton is an ancestral black hole where relatives disappear never to be seen again. :sceptical:

That is not so far away from where he was in 1881 but no close to where he was in 1891, although with this family that means nothing

14 years. My brain is becoming fried already.

Okay, it would appear John was with the South Staffs Regiment from 1897. Birthplace Montgomeryshire, estimated birth year 1878, number 5135, residing Wolverhampton. That's Familysearch but no online image available.

Trying to read his medical history and it is hard going, if anyone can help decipher the top couple of lines it would be very much appreciated.

The bottom part of the image is treatment for the same condition but at a different location, I have left it in incase it helps with deciphering.
