She first appears in 1861 when, as the full age daughter of William Derridge she married George Matthews at St Martin's Birmingham. Neither of the 2 witnesses appear to be related to her. According to census returns 1871-1891 she lived in Yardley Worcestershire and was born 1840±1 in either Packington or Great Packington. She died childless in 1900, reportedly aged 59. There are no further entries of any kind under her maiden name. There is no birth registration for her and there are no Derridge baptismal records in either Great or Little Packington 1825-1845.
I wonder if she is the Elizabeth TERHEEGE in 1851..... HO 107, piece 2063, folio 201, page 7 In 1861, her surname is TERHEDGE.... RG 9, piece 2216, folio 108, page 19 Note: the letters T and D can sound the same, hence the organisation Toc H - that stands for Talbot House but T and D sounded too similar in the trenches of WW1 so Toc was used for T.
DB, that is simply AY MAY ZING!! Have now found that Elizabeth's parents were married in Shustoke, just across a few fields from Packington. My thoughts exactly Sue. There is little or no doubt that Jan has found the right family. The name appears to be spelled Terheige and is probably of Dutch origin, so that could explain the pronunciation. Many thanks Jan.
