I'm looking for the birth of Dilys Audrey Jones.

    Dilys married twice.
    1. Patrick J E Studders in 1943 in Overton, Cardiganshire, Wales
    2. Joseph Anthony Rowlands in 1960 in Knighton Radnorshire, Wales
    I have neither marriage certificate.

I know that with Patrick she had 3 children of which one died.

She had one child with Joseph.

Apparently her mothers name was Bertha Ellen and she lived most of her life in Overton, Cardiganshire, Wales.

Dilys died in Knighton in 1997. On her death registry her date of birth is given as 16 Feb 1925.

Just ordered the certificate for her marriage to Patrick.

Knowing my luck it will come back with no father nor any other useful clues.

    Dispatch date estimate 13th April.

Well, I am drawing a blank as well. No trace in 1939 when she would have been just 14 and so theoretically, still at school.

A marriage in 1943 means that she would only be 18. Not impossible, but like @AnnB , I reckon that the year of birth is out.

Thank you both for looking. I found a couple of trees on Ancestry but they only know as much as I've found.

After days of searching I think I may have found her. Not totally sure yet, will have to some more digging.

When she died in 1997 her name was given as Dilys Audry J Rowlands.

I know her mother was Bertha Ellen Jones and she lived in Overton, Flint most of her life.

I looked for a Bertha E in Overton in 1939, found one with husband David Jones.

Bertha Ellen was born in 1900 her maiden name was Pritchard. She married David Jones in 1926 in Ellesmere, Shropshire. Ellesmere covers Overton.

Looked for a birth for a Dilys A Pritchard in 1925, found one Dilys A J Pritchard registered 1925 in Ellesmere, Shropshire mothers name Pritchard.

So I'm assuming that Dilys was born before her parents were married but her name at birth would be under her mothers name and that her mother had added Jones to her name, making her Dilys Audrey Jones Pritchard

Anyone want to shoot me down in flames?

Have now received the marriage cert for Patrick Studders to Dilys Audrey Jones. on 9th January 1943.

Dilys says she's 18 so born 1925. She gives her father as David Jones.

Therefore I think I have found her. Dilys passed in 1997 but as yet her death hasn't tickled through to the 1939 register.

On the 1939 register we have:-

Bertha E Jones 14 Aug 1900 Female Housewife Unpaid Married
David Jones 15 Oct 1898 Male General Labourer Married
    + two redacted records.

The first redacted (which is blacked out) has some green writing above it, but there is no way it can be deciphered. Usually this is an induction of a name change, i.e. marriage.

Ok back on to this one.

Looking for Patrick Joseph Edward Studders.

From the marriage cert he says:-

    He was born about 1922/3
His was Private 3065516 in the Pioneer Corps
His father was Martin Studders a Flour Mill Worker
He was living in Overton, Flintshire but his usual address was Manchester.
He died in 1993 in Stockport, Greater Manchester
From his death with the GRO his birth is given as 11 May 1923

    Good luck

I cannot see a birth reg for Patrick James, nor any entry for Martin in Manchester in 1911 - so are we going to need to look in Ireland?

There is a death reg for Martin T Studders age 66 June qtr 1960
    Manchester 10e 160

Very tenuous I know but the only deaths for the surname Studders on
    FreeeBMD (1923 - 1983) are:-
    Bernard E B age 0 June qtr 1947 Overton 8a 540
    Kathleen age 61 Dec qtr 1958 Manchester 10e 84
    and Martin T as above.
So are we looking for parents Martin and Kathleen?

Your guess is as good as mine?

Bernard was the first son of Patrick & dilys. Patrick married again in 1951, that's off the top of head.

There is a marriage of a Martin STUDDERS and Kate LOFTUS on 3rd January 1920 in Ballina, County Mayo, which would tie in nicely with a birth of Patrick in 1923.

Martin's occupation is recorded as "Ex Soldier" (I think - see below)
    Studders.JPG

As Patrick was in the army as well, I wonder if he carried on his father's tradition and possibly his birth might be recorded overseas if his father was serving at the time.

    Just a thought....
