Me neither - I have checked the GRO, FreeBMD, Lancs OPC and even the Irish records, just in case. :(

However, I have just had a random thought....

Liverpool is in Lancashire, England. However, there is a Liverpool in Onondaga County, New York State.

I wonder if the couple wed in Liverpool USA and it was assumed that it was Liverpool, Lancashire - and so Lancashire was thought to be the county.

As I say... just a thought....

There is also Lancashire County in Pennsylvania.
Or is that Lancaster County

Bearing in mind the thoughts that they may have wed in the USA - and not in 1873 - that could account for the first 2 children having been born over there.

Pure speculation but they may have travelled separately and met over there.

The Irish Potato Famine was at its height from 1845 to 1852, and it may well be that could be the reason for the initial emigration from Ireland, when they were children.

Please note: these are just ideas that are being thrown into the pot of possibilities. :)

    My immediate thought yesterday.

I couldn't find a marriage either; it didn't occur to me that there might be other Lancashires. Marrying in America would make sense...

I'm struggling with this one. I've even considered that Michael may have changed his name slightly (as one of my Irish immigrants did), but still nothing.

Maybe they never got married, it wouldn't be the first time. Actually it was more common than people think.

Why go to the expense of a wedding when you could pass as husband and wife anyway.

Especially coming in from America, who in this country would question it ?

Talk about the malignancy of the inanimate!!! I came across an email from someone I had contacted years ago regarding the name of my great grandmother's mother.. but do you think I can find it???? I remember being told that there was at first some doubt because of the spelling of the name they had found but they did some more research and were convinced it was Callaghan. So my thinking is that records may have her name spelled incorrectly hence we cannot find proper records

I did wonder if they'd married in port before leaving for America, and Liverpool would be an obvious choice. (Catherine Neil married Michael McLaughlin - he was witness to Michael Johnston's marriage).

I just had another thought. Perhaps my great grandmother Elizabeth Casford's death certificate might give a more detailed indication of where she was born. Interestingly enough on the death index it says her mother's name was Callahan!!. if anyone can get into the BMD index for QLD registration number BO26773 page 380

    Death registration:
    Elizabeth Ann Casford
    Death date: 3rd May 1950
    Mother's name: - Callahan Callahan
    Father/parent's name: Michael Joseph Johnston

I think they may have the date of burial as the date of death.

Lotus St.. Buranda. — The Relatives & Friends of the late Elizabeth Ann Casford are respectfully In formed that her Funeral is arranged to leave the Parlour. 400 Wickham St.. This Wednesday, at 3 p.m.. tor the Brisbane Crematorium.

3rd May was a Wednesday. The death date on the QLD deaths says date of death 3rd May, the paper is dated 3rd May and says 'This Wednesday'.....

Maybe that is where the confusion arose about Catherine and Michael marrying in Lancashire as Blackpool is in Lancashire and Elizabeth's place of marriage was mistaken for theirs.

If you see what I mean....o_O

I am nearly tearing my hair out here trying to find out where in Pennsylvania my great grandmother was bor. Her only surviving grandaughter, my aunt turns 91 on the 20th. I am wondering if the death certificate of my great grandmother will have the actual place of birth?

Chimp found the details of her death in post # 34 but it does not give a place of birth. :(
