Thanks to the 1939 Register i discovered a cousin I never knew about (apparently searching FreeBMD with the phonetic surname box ticked doesn't pick up REED as a variant of READ, who would have guessed) anyway ... Her son (being careful not to name names as potentially living) married someone with the surname BOLDKALD This name first appears in England and Wales in 1915 with the birth of Clement in Middlesborough. Puzzling over how to progress backwards, I stopped to look at Clement's marriage registration and realised he also used the name BUSATTIL A bit of fiddling about got me to the correct spelling of BUSUTTIL, which name first appears in the Civil Registration Index in 1880, families existing in Cardiff and London (and a few other places) as well as Middlesborough. However, I cannot directly connect any of these others to Clement (except for Violet who died aged 2) Clement and Violet's mother had a maiden name of NELMES Busuttil appears to be of Maltese origin, many of those with the name appear to be sailors. Clement was a soldier, perhaps his father was too ... While I mull over whether or not to purchase his birth certificate, just thought I would ask can anyone find a Busuttil/Nelmes marriage? Or maybe any overseas births, so i can connect some of the BMDs to Clement?
The only marriage between a NELMES and a BUSUTTIL (of any spelling... ) is.... Vincent BUSUTTILL to Florence A NELMES in the March quarter of 1916 in Middlesborough RD, volume 9d, page 1053. Any good?
They are also on the Tees Valley Index Code: http://www.teesvalley-indexes.co.uk/search_records.php?step=spouse&ref=M-AA-J98-0-0192
There is this, it's someones tree about Vincent Busuttil (b. 09 Nov 1893, d. 22 Sep 1968) It also names Clement Boldkald, Code: https://www.genealogy.com/ftm/b/u/s/James-Busuttil/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0007.html
I thought i tried double everything, and all kinds of wild cards ... And it was right under my nose, exactly where i was looking for it
There is one hell of a ‘tree’ of the Busuttils in Malta at Code: http://www.maltagenealogy.com/libro%20d'Oro/busuttil1.html It looks a bit confusing, but it may make sense if you study it
well i will sort the Middlesborough ones first, and the Boldkalds who flit between Middlesborough and Weymouth... then if I have any energy i might look at that
