    "
Ancestry, I have been with you for 5 years or maybe more and my subscription is due for renewal on 7 Oct this year.
You are asking for £179.99, which is the same price as last year and the year before, but wait, why are you giving new members a lure of £89.99 for a years membership when the members who have made your profits get kicked in the teeth.
This is totally unfair and says" s*d you loyal customers, all we want is newbies so that we can exploit them as well next time they renew".
This sort of attitude is seen most often within the insurance business, where fortunately savvy buyers can shop around and ditch overpriced, couldn't give a damn about the loyal customers attitude.
Unfortunately, because you serve a niche market, I think that you have determined that there is a "take it or leave it" attitude within your company and that is the reason that you have sent me an email with....Your Renewal Details, Your membership Annual Worldwide membership, Renewal Date 07 October 2018, Amount £179.99 without a "Thanks for being a loyal customer , here is your special discount code which should be quoted at time of renewal. I am sure that when you read this you will realise that as a disgruntled customer you will take action to ensure that I remain a customer.

Well done Brian - but that’s still a big discrepancy with the newbie discount? When you ring I’d go for bigger discount. But that’s just me....:):):):)

Yes it's true it is still making my renewal £135 and I'll take you up on this and call them on the 5th and try a bit of pressure and then call again on the 6th and see if we can come to an amicable agreement, after all any one who has Sky or Virgin may already know that it is possible with these two companies to shave ££££ off if you tell them you are leaving them.
I currently pay £50 a month to Virgin for a 200 mbps connection plus a TIVO Tv box with about 90 channels that can record tv programmes for you and apps like You tube, itv player, iplayer etc after we had terrible service from them at Christmas time last year.
The £50 a month was after receiving 3 months free plus £150 of the next bills for keeping quite about the appalling service that we received so if you complain hard enough results can be obtained.

Did you see a code for the newbie offer ? If so, try inputting it - I managed a substantial discount on a world sub in January with similar ! I think my normal sub lapsed on the same date but I still used my existing account to sign back up.

I just googled to see what they were offering and came to here
    Code:
    https://www.ancestry.co.uk/cs/offers/subscribe?dna=crossAct

however there is a caveat at the bottom of the page

*Offer available for new subscribers only and not for renewal of current subscriptions. After the initial 12 months, your membership will automatically renew at our standard prices for your chosen membership.

Well done you. I've just tried similar, but not so eloquently, with FMP. They did offer me 25%, news subs are currently being offered 33%, but it was on a 12 month sub. I can't afford a 12 month sub in one go so do it monthly, still works out the I pay the same. I told them this, but didn't hear anymore. Worth a try I guess.

You do have to let your sub lapse, but the very next day you are a new subscriber;) It worked for me, and I got 1 year at half price, online and using all of my existing details. (I did the same the year before as well:D)

Yep, I agree with Molly May, if you can’t get a deal you’re happy with then let it lapse for a day or two and then give it a go with the £89.99 link. I’m ptetty sure the deal I got was pretty much for new subscribers too.

Ok thanks Molly May, I have cancelled sub so that it doesn't auto renew and then will buy a new sub for £89.99.
Will download my trees that I have on there and then upload them to Anc when the new membership is in place, this seems the best course of action.
In the meantime will email back to Hollie at Anc to say that I've decided not to renew.

well they obviously don't tthink 15 years loyalty means anything
Thank you for contacting Ancestry regarding discounts for your subscription renewal. We appreciate your interest in our services.

We are happy to hear you are considering continuing your membership. Although we currently are offering no longevity discounts nor any subscription promotional pricing, we do see that you are signed up to receive emails from Ancestry when such promotions are available to you.

Occasionally, we also send various discount offers via social media or a banner advertisement at the top of your Ancestry home page, when we determine you are eligible. We look forward to your continued success with your membership.

so they have hardened their hearts for me :(

That is the answer I got a couple of years back when I rang and asked for a discount. I was so miffed I let my sub lapse and then a member on here passed on a half price discount deal and it worked. This year I looked for a discount code near to the the time my sub ended, and then let it end and rejoined as a new subscriber the following day.
For all of its faults FMP has always given a discount to those renewing their annual sub.

yes FMP are good on that loyalty is recognised and they sometimes give you extra days when they have free weekends......but Ancestry even though I have been with them 15 years don't bother, I have left it too late to cancel because I have so much still to transfer but m going to write up my tree and maybe try your suggestion thank you

Do try to open the discount offer using your old account once it’s lapsed - I’ve
always kept the same account and I believe that was Molly May’s experience too ? If that doesn’t work then yes, you may need to create another account to run in tandem just with a new persona and different log-in details.good luck.

Yes, I have kept all of my details, email address etc just entered the discount code on the payment page of 'My Account' - but I do not have a tree on Anc. so have no experience of what happens to one, but I would guess nothing changes.
