Hallow, Worcestershire

Have traced my ancester back to 1720(ish) in Hallow, Worcs but he was not born there, he married local woman, had many children and died there but I cannot trace where he could have come from or how I proceed from here. As he could have come from anywhere in the UK where do I start to look? I was a member of Ancestry for many years but prior to 1739 when he married there are 'no results' prior to this under his name. (Benjamin Everton)
Suggestions Please.

 

have tried searching but no luck so far
when did he die? maybe he left a will

 

Died 1777, had a son same name who died 1808. Not aware of a Will, people were very poor in those days and had little to leave anyone.

 

there is a transcription on FMP which mentions a will for a Benjamin Everton died 1777 in Hallow Worcestershire

That's great, thanks. Will follow up on that. I do have full copies of Hallow Parish Records which show prior to Benjamin's marriage in 1739 there is no reference to the name Everton in Hallow as far back as the 1500's. In such circumstances where do I go from here???

 

That's amazing thanks, you might be right about a connection. Over the years I have spent many hours in Worcester History Centre looking through Parish Records so looks like another trip. On a recent visit to Hallow Church I actually drove through Martley and I have always suspected that Benjamin was fairly local to Hallow. I may rejoin Ancestry for the winter months despite the fact of cost but it did previously prove invaluable.

 

Unfortunately I live in Shropshire not Worcestershire. Local library cannot help.

Amazing luck, contacted a prior contact who supplied my Full Hallow Parish records and he sent me similar for Martley. This should keep me busy for a while

 

As always happens with finding ancesters the Martley connection provided more questions than answers. The Benjamin mentioned by Jan died an infant so no answers there and no records of any Everton's ever getting married in Martley so the very few mentioned all came from elsewhere. Back to square one.

 

To be honest I think re-joining Ancestry is the way to go, it proved very successful when I first started. I am told free access is available in local library but not the same as at home.

 

Do google for 'deals' - you might be able to get a sub for half price

 

I would go with this option first I have searched both Ancestry and FMP for you with no luck that's not to say you haven't more info than I have and so might find what you want

Worcestershire Parish Register Society have for a long time been transcribing
the registers per parish and publishing them on CD. They had always been for
sale at sensible price on Parish Chest. I believe they also ran a search service.
They have suddenly disappeared from Parish Chest and I cannot see them
elsewhere. I suspect Worcester Archives should hold copies of these and it
might be worthwhile contacting Malvern FHS as they have an ongoing
transcription program.

 

From what I can see of it The Genealogist have a pretty comprehensive
coverage of Baptisms and Burials, but their Marriages appear to start
with Hardwicke [1754].
