Hello! I am hoping someone can help me locate a newspaper item regarding the marriage of my great-great grandparents, James Scott and Mary Calderwood. I have tried Find My Past and British Newspaper Archives and found nothing. I live in the United States so visiting the appropriate historical society, library, etc., isn't really an option. James and Mary were married on 19 March 1872 in the Killymurris Presbyterian Church.
Welcome! Have you checked the Ballymena Observer for that date? That would have been the newspaper of the time that would have covered Killymurris.

I was actually hoping against hope there would be and that the item would contain some clue to narrow down exactly who my 3x great-grandparents were. I have the names of my 3x great-grandfathers from the marriage record but the names are extremely common. I also have no idea who my 3x great-grandmothers were as James and Mary were born before civil registration began.

Unfortunately, Archie's Mum, I don't see the attachment so I can't be 100% sure the story is mine. I did write a story about my great-grandmother, Elizabeth Scott, for an Irish research society's 80th anniversary and later submitted the story with a photo to the GAA magazine.

Hello there and a Happy New Year. I can see how complicated this is. Have only looked at the Calderwoods in Killydonnelly- all with the same set of names! Best thing is to take a large piece of paper and bring together all the info you can find and you may well have done this already. Try info from PRONI, Irish Genealogy, Ulster Historical Foundation, Irish Census etc to work out family members and relationships. You can also use subscription sites like ancestry or fmp. I think Mary Calderwood's mother may be Eliza. My reasoning. From the marriage record Mary's father was Matthew Calderwood as you will know. Looks as though he is the one who died in 1905. His will is available on PRONI's will calendar I think as daughter Mary Scott mentioned. Other daughters include Eliza Patterson, Sarah Lamont and Mattie Jamison. In 1901 census he is a widower in Eliza's household. Sister Martha ( Mattie) Jamison nee Calderwood seems to have made an application to the 1851 census in 1921, giving parents as Matthew and Eliza Calderwood. (In which case Matthew is probably not the Matthew who married a Sarah Simpson in 1846.) In the 1851 census there is a family with Matthew, Eliza and children Sarah Jane, Mary and Martha who could be the correct family. Tho I can't see a marriage for Matthew and Eliza. There is also another Matthew married to a Sarah. She could possibly be the Sarah who died in 1906. I have only looked at freely available material and my guesses may be wrong!
