I am looking for the birth of Mary Batchelor. She married James Warren on 15 September 1815 in Wimbledon. They had quite a clutch of children, the last that I have found was John George David in 1827. There has been an earlier search in here for deaths (2013 believe it or not), but none found for either James or Mary. @Londoner found one Census entry for a Mary Warren in Lambeth workhouse 1841, HO107, 1958, book 1, that Mary seems to have died in the workhouse in July of the same year. But I can't help thinking with such a large family, some at least in work, she probably wouldn't have been in the workhouse unless she was ill of course. I am revisiting and wouldn't mind some help.
Anc have 2 possible births (I used 1795 +/- 5 years), which could be her 28/6/1895 St Mary Whitechapel d/o James and Ann 12/9/1790 St Bride's Fleet Street d/o William and Sarah (lived at 2 Great New Street - born 1st August) Do any of those names crop up in her children?
I have another thread going on the handwriting forum which might help this a bit but not holding my breath.
I notice there is a Thomas Batchelor witness at her wedding so either her dad or a brother maybe we can find him
there is a baptism for a Mary Batchelor in Capel Surrey bap 26 Jul 1795 father Thomas Batchelor mother Mary
a Possible?? Mary Warren Age: 63 Birth Year: 1796 Burial Date: 06/07/1859 Burial Place: Okewood, St John the Baptist Surrey England
If the threads are merged, replies will appear in time order and not make sense as it will not be clear as to what they are replying. Therefore, if anyone wants to check the other information, they just need to click on the link in post #9.
Do you have any positive sightings of James or Mary on any census? Any real kknowledge of where either of them came from before marriage? Tried to find marrriages for Maria or John but no positives. sorry.
The marriage of James Warren and Mary Batchelor took place at Reigate, not Wimbledon. So are you sure this is the right marriage?
John George was born in Merton and James was a plate printer I think. @burt is right James and Mary married in Reigate but their children were born as follows: Edward Warren born 1814 Wimbledon, died 1815 Wimbledon so before James and marry married. Joshua born Wimbledon 1816 rip 1857 Chesterfield, he was a soldiers servant and members here completely nailed him in another thread. Edmund (my 2nd g grandfather) baptised 15.11.1818 Wimbledon Rip Merton 1886. He married Mary Ann Marshall and was a plate printer as was her father. Caroline born 1820 Wimbledon RIP 1822 Wimbledon Maria born 1822 Wimbledon John George David 1827 Merton. I really like the Mary daughter of Thomas Batchelor mentioned at post #6 but she didn't name any of her children after her father.
I cannot see another marriage of a James and Mary, and the Reigate one fits, Sue. I think the Capel baptism of Mary Batchelor, 1795 Jul 26, daughter of Thomas (& Mary), is correct, and I think James Warren is the son of John and Sarah, 1792 Jan 22, at next door Ockley. Just trying to establish birth dates to help with death/burial dates.
Well, I'm open to challenge on this. Having looked again at the baptisms for all of the children, the parents are James and Mary Warren, including Edward's. Nothing there about him being illegitimate. James' profession is variously calico printer and carpenter. Aaagggghh.
Ploughing back through old threads, I seem to have missed this one https://genealogy-specialists.com/t...ike-rabbits-they-keep-disappearing.798/page-2 Sloppy work. I'll order the 'stificate immediately.
I found 9 children belonging to Thomas in Capel, Surrey although most don't name the mother. Beginning with Hannah in 1780 through to Mary in 1795. I can see John in the 1851 census married to Phillis. Cant find a marriage for Thomas and Mary though. Progress all the same.
