Oh dear, make that 3 x3 G'dads. This one was b. 1790 to a man b. 1824 [ & wife] copied to at least 5 family sites.
Good Luck! Let's hope it is fruitful! Not the Champion, there are no descendants of Jessie unfortunately. This is Loki, we imported from Russia, now 5 years old, has been shown a little, got 1 Reserve CC, I love him to bits.
I would love to, but there is no way on earth that one can ‘hop on a train’ from here - but I’ll be thinking of you xx
Extremely successful for me! My documents were on parchment and very big! I have photographed as best I can but how I stitch all the pictures together I have no clue. But, I did find out who the father of Joan Upperton was. The documents @burt found related to a challenge by Richard Sowters granddaughters. I will try to post an update i here, in the meantime, where is that glass of wine! Met up with Eve and Huncamunca who came out of her little cubby hole to help me. That was also very lovely. So a good day all around.
For interested parties, here is what has been revealed since my first post. We ruled out James the second and plumped for James the first, son of Richard and Mary Sowter, baptised 25 November 1750 in Burpham. We settled on this because his burial record in 1824 declared him to be 74 and his marriage in 1775 both had him born 1750. That left me up the creek as there is no record of a marriage for Richard and Mary so that’s that I thought. Then @burt came galloping over the hill having done some digging on the naming patterns. He discovered that Richard and Mary named one of their boys Francis, but there was no sign of a Francis anywhere else. He searched Familysearch for a child Mary, father Francis and the only candidate was Mary Knowls. There then came lots more information about the Knowles family and following and chasing Wills and all sorts we now have that line back to 1655. That is still ongoing. Going backwards on the Richard Sowter line, there is a Will dated 1672 which names his son Nicholas as executor and mentions his grandson William, the father of the Richard we first mentioned. This Will was contested by Richard’s two granddaughters by Nicholas’ first wife, Mary Holland and this is the stuff I went to TNA for on Wednesday. In the meantime, @burt has been transcribing like billy o and has just completed the Will of John Knowles dated 1570. I haven’t even started on the Upperton’s, they pop up in two lines and much digging on them has also been going on. Thanks all of you for helping with this, but words cannot express my gratitude to @burt who has been burning the midnight oil for days. Two of his transcripts have been sent of to SFHG to add to their collection with more to follow. It just goes to show, it’s not all over till the fat lady sings.
What a brilliant result and many congratulations to Burt for all his hard work!! Onwards and upwards now, or perhaps more correctly forwards and backwards. Good luck with the new searches. Janet
I have just sent Blackmogs another Will transcript for 1624 wherein the testator has two sons called John and two sons called William, the younger of the two Johns is hers. I'm awaiting her reaction!
Good heavens that is ridiculous, I have never ever heard of that. If anyone needs me this afternoon I'll be in the darkened room.
