William Henry Powell was born at 11, Pontycapel Road ,Cefn-Coed-y-Cymmer, Breconshire on 17th March 1909.

His parents were George John Powell and Mary Magdalene (nee Thomas)

George and Mary were married in Dowlais, Glamorganshire on 5th January 1908. (Image on FMP)

George was a Bachelor, Platelayer, age 21
His father was William James Powell, Labourer
Mary was aged 20, her father was Evan Thomas, Roadman.

I can't find either of William's parents prior to their marriage, and neither can I find any of them in the 1911 census.

On the 1939 census George & Mary are living at Marllwyd Cottage, Abergavenny R.D., Monmouthshire, Wales with 2 of their later children, Albert J b. 1926 and Glenville R born 1929.

The latter 2 children have their births registered in the Weobley, Herefordshire district.

There are several Powell children with the MMN Thomas born in Weobley but how many belong to this family I have no idea.

Edith Mary Thomas was bap 5/5/1907 d/o Mary single woman - servant, address Victoria House - parish of Llanfair in Builth (on FMP)

1901 census Mary Thomas d/o Evan (Highway labourer) living Irfon Terrace, Penbuallt, Builth RG13/5161/31/2

Although FMP has pob for WH and LM as Upn Coed I am sure the original says Cefn Coed.

    I wish I could find the birth reg/ baptism for L M

(not giving up on this one yet;))

@MollyMay having slept on this I'm inclined to agree that posts #2 and #4 are them.

George J can be traced back to 1891 with his family.

There is a tree on Anc* for George, and ascribes the parents on the 1911 census as his - it also gives Albert, Grenville, Thomas and Arthur to the him and Mary M nee Thomas, but they have a gap from 1901 to 1915 and no marriage either. There is no mention of William Henry, but also a daughter Ada b1916 in Hereford (but I cannot find a birth reg for her).

Sadly not - the yob is given as 1900 on the transcription, but the age on the original is 11 months, not 11 years, so yob should be 1910+/- 1 year
