    From Family Search:-
Marriage. Thomas Cowling/Caroline Skinner. Aug 11, 1853. District of Columbia.

Death. Caroline Cowling. Jan 22, 1855. Alexandria, Virginia.

    From 'Find A Grave'
"Caroline, beloved wife of Thomas C Cowling, departed this life January 22, 1855, aged 22yrs, 1mth, 10days"
    Lebanon Union Cemetery, Alexandria.

    From Family Search:-
Marriage. Thomas Cowling/Indiana Plant. June 21, 1865. District of Columbia.

I am looking for any additional personal information about Thomas Cowling to determine whether it is the same individual in each event. Age? Occupation? Marital status? Parentage?

    And this
Thomas C Cowling born 1808 died 16 April 1871 aged 62-63, buried at Glenwood Cemetery wife Elizabeth C Gladman. Born Alexandria Virginia in 1831 Find a Grave
These are the parents of Carrie, Thomas C Cowling being somewhat older than his wife Elizabeth. Perhaps their Carrie is named after Thomas first wife Caroline?

    Thanks, Sue.
My interest is in Thomas, husband of Mary Indiana Plant. My question is "Is he the Thomas who married Caroline Skinner in 1853?"

I have seen the references you quote and think, on balance, that probably not. If Thomas in 1853 was a livery stable worker, or similar, son of Edward and Mary, or if Thomas in 1865 was a widower, I would have to re-think.

A coincidence? James, brother of 'my' Thomas, married Mary Emma Skinner, b c 1848, circa 1875.

    Hi,

Is your Thomas related to Atwell Cowling?

This is the 1869 directory for Washington, DOC, there are 2 Thomas'

    Cowling.jpg

The Thomas without the C is with brother Atwell in the 1860 USA census,
says he's 27 born Virginia, transcribed as Coroling.

Many, many thanks. That's terrific. Problem solved.

My interest is in the brothers Thomas and Atwell. You have now shown that Thomas C, husband of Caroline, is an entirely different individual and the couple are of no direct concern to me.

Also thanks for finding Thomas in 1860. His apparent absence was troubling me. Excellent work.

    I'm speechless!
    'Thank you' sounds so inadequate.
