I'm stuck at trying to get back further than the 1901 census. I'm also trying to find a marriage for John Jones to Margaret Price sometime in the 1890's Here is what I have:- 1911 - 19 Ynys Street Ynyshir Near Pontypridd, Rhondda, Glamorganshire, Wales John Jones, Head, Married, 41, 1870, Colliery Timberman Underfground Repairer, Garth R S O Brecon Margaret Jones, Wife, Married, 38, 1873, Llandrindod Radnor William Rosberry, Jones, Son, Single, 16, 1895, Collier Boy Underground Coal Mine Hewer, Cardiff Glam Winifred Mary Jones, Daughter, 12, 1899, School, Porth Glam Elsie May Jones, Daughter, 10, 1901, Porth Glam Doris Ada Jones, Daughter, 9, 1902, Porth Glam Iris Eva Jones, Daughter, 7, 1904, Builth Wells Brecon Vera Mabel Jones, Daughter, 5, 1906, Cefny Bedd Brecon 1901 - 17, High Street, Cymmer, Ystradyfodwg, Pontypridd, Glamorganshire, Wales John Jones, Head, Married, 32, 1869, Mineral Water Haulier, Builth, Breconshire, Wales Margaret Jones, Wife, Married, 29, 1872, Llandrindod, Radnorshire, Wales William Roseberry Jones, Son, Single, 6, 1895, Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales Winifred Mary Jones, Daughter, Single, 2, 1899, Porth, Glamorganshire, Wales Elsie May Jones, Daughter, Single, 0, 1901, Porth, Glamorganshire, Wales All the children have the MMN PRICE JONES, WILLIAM ROSEBERY Mother's Maiden Name: GRO Reference: 1895 M Quarter in OF CARDIFF Volume 11A Page 381 JONES, WINIFRED MARY Mother's Maiden Name: GRO Reference: 1899 M Quarter in PONTYPRIDD Volume 11A Page 515 JONES, ELSIE MAY Mother's Maiden Name: GRO Reference: 1900 D Quarter in PONTYPRIDD Volume 11A Page 543 JONES, DORIS ADA Mother's Maiden Name: GRO Reference: 1902 J Quarter in PONTYPRIDD Volume 11A Page 588 JONES, IRIS EVA Mother's Maiden Name: GRO Reference: 1904 M Quarter in BUILTH Volume 11B Page 66 JONES, VERA MABEL Mother's Maiden Name: GRO Reference: 1905 D Quarter in BUILTH Volume 11B Page 66 I thought a possible marriage for John & Margaret might be:- Marriages Mar 1893 Pontypridd - 11a - 602 John Jones & Margaret price This John Jones turns out to be a 25 year old (born 1868'ish) Tailor When William Roseber(r)y Jones married in 1923 in Beguildy, Radnorshire he gave his father as John Jones, miner.
John Jones and Margaret Price, 17 Oct 1892, Dowlais Parish Church, Glamorganshire. John's occupation is a collier.
Only trouble with that one is John is aged 33 so giving a birth of 1859. On the censuses he was born 1869/70
But at least we can now discount :- Marriages Dec 1892 - Merthyr T. - 11a - 923 Marriages Mar 1893 - Pontypridd - 11a -602
I'm still trying to look around Ponty before their first child was born and wondering if it might've been a second marriage for Margaret, but that's not really helping matters.
Is this the same place as Garthbrengey? If so, then there is a John JONES with his widowed father William (which fits with John's eldest lad being called William - naming patterns and all that... ) in 1881 at 2, Cwrte Bach, Garthbrengy, Brecknock, Breconshire. Ref: RG11, piece 5456, folio 35, page 5
I have no idea about that part of the country. I Don't understand the Garth R S O Brecon bit at all. I wonder where the Roseber(r)y name comes from.
Me neither. I did try googling it but just came up with other references to it rather than an explanation.
I can't find this. The only one I can find there in 1881 is the son of Evan and Gwenllian at 2, Cwrte Bach, Garthbrengy, Brecknock, Breconshire
