Having a bit of trouble with William's place of birth. The above married 1859 in Helson. The 1861 census has William Tremellan age 26 at Sithney with wife Grace and place of birth look to be St Erth. 1871 he says he is born St Ewe. 1881 born St Ewe. 1891 born St Ewe. 1901 born Sithney. The only baptism for St Ewe is William Thomas Tremelling 30th September 1834 and he was 'brought to church nearly 3 years old' mother Patty Tremelling. CornwallOPC. Was the 1861 St.Ewe and not St.Erth and where is Patty?
1901 has William born at St Austell which is the right area for St Ewe. 1911 has Grace a widow. She had 10 children(I can only find 9). and I can't find Grace's death either.
1841 census has a William Tremellin 1836 Born St Ewe living at Treginow ,St Ewe,St Austell, living with Hugh Rolling 1786 and others. No sign of Patty. I wonder if it is him.
Have a look; The Story of Patty Tremelling from Voices from the Dressing Floor 1773-1950..Chapter 2 A tiny booklet no ore than 3 inches by one inch and a half. The book is called Patty Tremelin the life of a Cornish Mine Girl written by herself.....subsequent research of parish registers for Redruth, St Mewan, St Ewe and St Austell matches numerous events within the story. Patty was born Martha Patience Tremelling. Her parents were Francis and Martha Tremelling. Her baptism is recorded 18th March 1804 St Uny Parish Church Redruth. She gave birth to 3 illegitimate children, suffered from severe depression and twice detained in Bodmin Gaol and eventually became terminally ill. Her first child is believed to be Richard Bray Tremelling and recorded as the son of Patience Tremellen. Her second was William Thomas born in 1831 then she was committed to Bodmin gaol that year for disobeying on order of bastardy. Her third was John Francis, bastard child of Martha Tremelling, servant...and so it goes on and if you have a read you will find her life very interesting but sad. She seems to have had some rather serious mental issues. I will try and put the link up. If not its quite easy to find.

From 1831 until 1835 Patty (Martha) was receiving 3 pounds per year from a John Luke for her son William Thomas
Thank you. I'm still trying to read it all. Just realised that the name 'Patty' is for 'Patience' her second name.
CprnwallOPC has Martha twice and one of them 1833 has her occupation as prostitute, The name Martha appears in this family so can he be the son if Martha Patience? The only link being St Ewe. My friend will have a surprise when she reads this! Now to find William in 1851.
I don’t believe she was a prostitute. I think she just got herself in a bind (3 times) and trusted too much. She worked at the mine then walked a long way home and worked looking after a mother with cancer.
I agree with you. Yesterday I thought that I would get the death certificate just to see who registered it and the address. Won't bother now.
Found Martha Patience Tremelling on the balmaiden database search. Going to see if I can find her other children. Richard Bray 1830 and John Francis 1832.
I can't find William Tremelling (all spellings) in 1851. #Page 1 1861 he says he was born at St Erth and the actual page looks to be right. Other have him at St Ewe and then finishing at Sithney in1901 I am not even sure if he is the son of Martha Patience. Considered buying the marriage certificate of William Tremelling and Grace Rogers to see if a father's name is on it but am aware that anything can be put. It has always been said that he came from St Ewe. ADDED: I don't know where he suddenly became William Thomas because if my friend is correct he is known as William in the censuses
There is a William Tremellen b1833 in St Ewe, an unmarried male. Listed as servant in the relationship column, occupation Ag Lab With the Gaved family - the head being John Drew Gaved (b 1821) butcher living Polgooth, St Mewan, St Austell HO107/1908/297/9
I have been looking, and keep coming back to these two census:- 1841 at Levalsa Down, St Ewe (HO107 Piece 146; Book 8; Folio 43, Page 17) Thomas TREMELY (FMP transcription) 35, Tin Miner Elizabeth TREMELY 35 Frances TREMELY 10 Elizabeth TREMELY 9 William TREMELY 7 Thomas TREMELY 8 months Catherine TREMELY 3 (all born Cornwall) 1851Harriess Pennpillick, Tywardreath, St Austell (HO107/1906/170/32) Thomas TREMELLEN - Head, 46 (1805) Copper Miner born Gwinear Elizabeth - Wife, 45 (1803) born Creed William - Son, 17 (1834) Copper Miner born St Ewe Catharine - daughter, 13 (1838) Scholar born St Ewe Thomas - son, 11 (1840) Scholar born St Ewe John N - son, 2 (1849) born St Blazey Catherine, Thomas and John N(icholas) have mother's maiden name NANCARROW, so that may just be where the middle name of one of William's sons comes from. Thomas TREMELLING and Elizabeth NANCARROW married on 27 June 1829, St Austell. So far, the only baptisms I can find to Thomas and Elizabeth are for a Fanny and Elizabeth on 3 June 1833 at St Austell - abode is given as Hombush, which apparently is just a half mile east of St Austell. I wonder if the Frances and Elizabeth on the 1841 census are Fanny and Elizabeth. Shall keep looking for other baptisms.
