Elizabeth was born in Brighton in 1869 - bap 4/8/1869
Daughter of Mary Ann (Brown) and George Jupp
Mary Ann dies in 1876 and in 1881 Elizabeth (plus her sister Mary Ann Brown) can be found living with the Plank family RG11/1080/116/7 in Brighton.
Her father is in the workhouse in 1881 and dies in 1889
I cannot find Elizabeth after 1881
FMP has a possible marriage in 1889 to either James Henry Morgan (or Maryan) or Frederick Blaker. Sept qtr Brighton 2b 358
FreeBMD have the spouses as James Frederick Potten or Edward Ward Sept qtr 2b 368
it looks like 368 to me upload_2019-11-17_21-54-25.png
I cannot find her with any of the possible spouses in 1891, nor a death.

    Can anyone else find her?

In 1911 Frederick James Potten and wife Elizabeth are living at the Britannia Inn, Littlehampton.

There is a Alfred Henry Jupp, Father-in-law aged 76 with them.

1891: RG12/836/53/48 - Brewery, Montague Street, Broadwater, East Preston, Sussex

1901: RG13/960/36/14 - 1 Brunswick Road, Worthing, Heene, East Preston, Sussex

In all of these, Elizabeth gives a different birth year, but I think the 1911 census confirms it is her. Or maybe not as the father in law's name is different.

Also, Frederick James instead of James Frederick :(

    Will look again.

Obviously didn't read your post properly, Sorry

Thank you @Jellylegs - that seems to prove the marriage is not my Elizabeth (her father George was dead before 1891), so where is she?

Yes, sorry about that - made a right pigs ear of that one, but I suppose if nothing else, it proves that marriage is not her.

No need to apologise - it is good of you to try. It does eliminate any marriage in 1889 though so a small step forward, more than I could find;)

Oops:oops: her sister with her in 1881 is Ellen Brown (not Mary Ann as I put in the original post) b1859 - 7 years before their mother married George Jupp, and she too disappears after 1881.

    RG12/808/116/36 - Elizabeth SARGENT?

7 St. Leonard Street, Brighton. There is a daughter with her and her husband Henry.

    Edith 1 year old.

Looking at the GRO, an Edith Maud SARGENT is registered March Q 1890, Brighton. Mother's maiden name is JUPP.

I don't know really. Changed from FMP to Ancestry, put the usual in - name, year of birth +/- 1 born Brighton and lived in Sussex, then crossed fingers :D

Found census first, then looked for birth of daughter, then marriage of SARGENT to JUPP (which is when she appeared as Lizzie).

Don't you just hate it when they swap their names around, or add a middle name or change it slightly. I would not have thought of looking for Lizzie either.

I wonder if this is Elizabeth's sister Ellen?

    1891: RG12/805/27/14 - 18 Claremont Place, Brighton Sussex

Ellen BISHOP (wife of James BISHOP) b. 1865 Brighton Sussex. She is a laundress (from memory she was an ironer in 1881). James is a Fisherman and there are five children in the household.

I checked a couple of the children on the GRO and they had a mmn of BROWN.

In 1901 RG13/923/10/12 still at the same address, James is now a widower and a Fish Hawker.

Marriage: James BISHOP and Ellen BROWN are on the same page in the Sep Q 1881, Brighton Reg. District.

There is a death registration for Ellen BISHOP in the March Q 1900 Brighton.
Age is given as 39, so a birth year of 1860/61 - better than her age given on the 1891 census.

    A possibility?

Someone on Ancestry has a tree for Henry James Sargent, it says he married
Elizabeth Ellen Jupp on 24 NOV 1888 at St Johns, Brighton. Henry dies in 1915 and Elizabeth in 1919

    They had 4 children:-

Edith Maud Sargent - 26 FEB 1890 • Brighton, Sussex
Florence Ellen Sargent - 01 MAR 1892 • Brighton, Sussex
Grace Alice Sargent - 08 DEC 1899 • 7 whichelo Place Brighton (registered Alice Grace)
Henry James Edward Sargent - 16 JUN 1901 • Brighton, Sussex

The names check out on the GRO.

This is from a tree owned by a Sargent, they have quite a few actual dates (not just years) and address's where they were born, so it looks like it is a well researched tree. They have no actual documents, probably because they don't want people lifting them. I wouldn't have been guilty of that

I think you have her @Jellylegs:). It got too late last night to look again for Ellen, so thank you. I am pretty certain that is my Ellen, her first child is Mary Ann (mother and sister) and she then has a Lizzy. Claremont place is where she was living in 1881 with the Planks too.

Thanks @Chimp too - I am not likely to get to the Sussex Archives at Lewes again anytime soon ;)
