OK clever people I need your help yet again, please.

I am looking for some children of this marriage. Archibald Hamilton married Ann Jaques 4 Nov 1756 at St Mary Magdalen, Old Fish St, London. Ann was of this parish, but Archibald was of the parish of St Leonards, Shoreditch. Ann was born 1726 and baptised 27 Jun 1726 at St Giles, Cripplegate, London. I know nothing more about Archibald.

I couldn't find anything either :( though I did notice that they were married by Licence from the Archbishop of Canterbury. Have been looking for that Licence, but can't see it. If you could get hold of a copy, I wonder if it would give any more information?

So it was you who purchased all the pasta. Hmmm?
    Got any SR flour?
I have also been looking for you. Found an Archibald baptism around the right time but not where he is supposed to be. 1724 if I remember.

Found it on FMP under 'Vicar General Marriage Licences'. But all it gives you is the licence date, groom and brides last names and the place that issued the licence. You can get a copy from the Society of Genealogist for 15 pounds, too much for me at the moment.

How many Archibald HAMILTONs are there likely to be in London around 1756?

St. Mary Magdalen, Old Fish Street, where the couple wed, was on the corner of Old Fish Street and Old Change. The church was destroyed in 1893. However, it was in the City of London.

FindMyPast has a number of Westminster Rate Book entries around this time, which shows Archibald as a Printer/Stationer. There are also entries on the Old Bailey Online website for this chap - people kept nicking things from him. :sceptical:

Whether or not he is yours, I have no idea, but thought it was worth a punt. :)

Thanks AM. I've got that one on standby, but have nothing else to confirm if it's him.

There is a burial of an Archibald HAMILTON of Bedford Row, Westminster, on 17th March 1793 at St Anne's, Soho. No age is given, so may or may not be the correct chap.

This is probably the publisher chap. There's a picture of him and his family here, but no more info :(

According the “The Edinburgh History of the Book in Scotland” on Google Books,
Archibald Hamilton, for example, left Edinburgh as a teenager in 1736, eventually becoming Strahan’s shop manager at more than £200 per year. In 1756, Hamilton established his own London printing business and started the ‘Critical Review’ with Smollett…
    Could this be your Archibald?
(I found it by searching for "Archibald Hamilton" publishers London)

Archibald the publisher was born in 1719, was the father of Archibald Hamilton who in turn was the father of Samuel Hamilton - all publishers.

Thank you very much @AnnB . I have absolutely no idea if this could be my Archibald Hamilton. All I have on him is the marriage of him to my OH's 4 x Great Aunt. Though as soon as I saw the surname Hamilton I did wonder if he could be Scottish or had a Scottish connection. Off to have tea now, will return to this couple tomorrow when I have a clearer head.o_O
