Anne Fletcher married William West 17/9/1815 in Cranford Middlesex.

Ann was baptised 29/6/1791 in Twickenham daughter of Solomon and Susan Fletcher

Solomon Fletcher married Susanna Butler 10/5/1883 at St Margaret Westminster (I have not seen the image just transcription) Susanna Butler was baptised 3/8/1755 d/o James and Jane.

Solomon dies and is buried in Twickenham on 27/8/1824 and from his age given he has a yob of 1746
Can anyone help with where he came from, I have drawn a blank.

Solomon and Susan have 8 children all baptised Twickenham St Mary
    Anne 1779 -1779
Walter 1780 (anc have his name as Aaron, but it is a mistranscription) d1854
    Jane 1781
    Solomon 1783
    Solomon 1785
    John 1788 -1789
    Ann 1791 (married William West)
    John 1879

Can anyone find a burial for the first Solomon Child, or anything on the second?

    Thank you.

Thought you might like this, just out of interest :)
British Press London 4th September 1824
    Coroners Inquests
An inquest was held at the Queen’s Head, Twickenham, on the body of Solomon Fletcher. It appeared in evidence that the deceased was a respectable resident of the above town, and a short time prior to his dissolution he had been afflicted by a fit of apoplexy, since which period he had been rather unwell, and on Tuesday night last, his wife was alarmed out of her sleep, when she found him in a dying state. A surgeon proved that he had died of apoplexy, and the Jury returned a verdict of “Died by the visitation of God”.

Thank you Ann, so rare for any of mine to make the papers and he was a respectable resident too:)
I thought he would be easy to find - should have known better:D

I thought you would like the respectable bit  I can’t find any other reference to him in the papers, although there are a couple of other Solomon Fletchers, particularly one who was a bankrupt linen draper from Manchester.

There is a Solomon Fletcher at East Knoyle, Wiltshire, son of
Elizabeth in October 1744. I have not managed to kill him off!

No luck finding the burial of the first Solomon born c1783 and he certainly does not appear in the burial records of St Mary Twickenham although the second Solomon's baptism does. The only likely Solomon FLETCHER I can find is one who marries an Ann JACKSON at Manchester on 5 June 1814 (Bishop's Transcripts entry available to view on Ancestry), he being a Farmer. This could tie in with a burial record transcription for Solomon FLETCHER at Ashton under Lyne on 24 May 1855, aged 70. However, looking at the 1841 census of Ashton under Lyne, he states he was born in Lancashire, aged 48, is an Overlocker, living with wife Ann and a Martha JACKSON, aged 80, presumably Ann's mother, so on balance I think he is unlikely to be your Solomon son of Solomon. The only other Solomon FLETCHER is one living in Staffordshire who is married to a Martha, but the 1851 census of Wolverhampton shows that he was born c1784 in Willenhall.

Like Ann, the only other references to a Solomon FLETCHER I can find in earlier newspaper reports, are those for a Linen Draper of Manchester circa 1803/1804. The only baptism I can find for a Solomon FLETCHER c1746 is the one that Burt has already found for you.

There is a Solomon FLETCHER who appears in the Sussex Advertiser dated 13 September 1824 who is on the "List of Gamekeepers not being assessed Servants for the Bower, with Howlets & Skirts". Not at all sure what that refers to mind!

Thank you Janet, for all your efforts, it certainly is a bit of a mystery where the son of Solomon goes (the first child Solomon surely died, but his burial still remains to be found).

It looks as if Elizabeth FLATCHER marries George Humphrey
1752 Jan 3 at Fonthill Gifford, next door to East Knoyle.

Thank you again @burt - I will enter him as a possible (I have nothing else) - it is so very difficult to be absolutely sure, with no occupation and nothing other than marriage, children's baptisms etc to go on. Not even an occupation entered anywhere in the registers to help.

Well it is a very long shot, but looking to see whether there were any children for George and Elizabeth Humphry in Wiltshire drew a blank. I saw a possible
    couple having children at Staines!

That certainly tips the balance from possible to probable, what an excellent find - thank you so much.

Unless it is the same child baptised twice - I have seen that before.

    Baptisms at Fonthill Gifford:
    14 Jun 1752 Richard s/o George & Elizabeth Humphry
    29 Sep 1754 Ann d/o George & Elizabeth Humphry

There is a burial at Fonthill Gifford on 10 Aug 1756 of a George Humphrey, but no age given so it may not be him. However, there is also a marriage 12 Nov 1757 between James Wyer of Tisbury & Elizabeth Humphry, widow otp (Fonthill Gifford).

It looks like this couple goes on to have numerous children at Tisbury, although the first one (James) is baptised to John & Betty, with the others to James & Betty.

ADDED: Richard Humphrys 21 of Tisbury married Charity Scammel 23 of Teffont by bond of 8 Dec 1773

The closest I can find for Solomon 1785 is a record from 1801 - Thames Watermen & Lightermen - Solomon Fletcher bound to John Horrod. 'where from' notes state Kingston, which is just down the road from Twickenham. I can't find any further record of him though, and 16 would seem a bit old to be bound as what I assume to be an apprentice.

That had not entered my head:rolleyes:
I have gone back and rechecked the original entries in case the first had private baptism by it (it didn't), but something worth keeping in mind.
    Thank you.

Thank you @Andromeda, Solomon b1746 goes back to a possible as s/o Elizabeth in Wiltshire. The thing that bothered me most about this one was, that none of his daughters are called Elizabeth, nor is name used in the next couple of generations (nothing scientific in that, but it generaly happens).

Thanks for the Waterman find - now that does sound like mine. Using the bap date for the second child Solomon, he would have only been 15/16 when he is listed with John Horrod, and it does look like an apprentice even though it does not say as much.

Yes, that bothered me too, but I also wondered about why he named his first son Walter, and there is a Walter Fletcher baptised East Knoyle in 1736, s/o Betty - could he be Solomon's brother? A Walter Fletcher marries Anne Grist in East Knoyle in 1760. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to name any of his children Solomon, so maybe its just a coincidence.

Certainy worth adding to the notes for Solomon, so much is circumstantial when you only have the PR's to go on.
    Thanks again.
