I recently purchased an original 1853 bastardy bond as an example for my commercial website. That section of the website is to display samples of various historic documents and to let the researcher see what may be available to them. I have since been contacted by a g.g. granddaughter of the couple mentioned in the bond who wishes to buy it from me. As I don't have a personal interest in the bond I am only too happy to re-unite it with "its" family for the price I paid however I will have to check there are no restrictions on exporting it first. Cheers Guy
Nah, not generous, generous is what you and Jan do in providing a forum. I am simply trying to help people discover what is available outside the usual sources of births, deaths marriages, etc. Newcomers often seem to think that the only original material is locked up in archives whereas a huge proportion, perhaps even the bulk is drifting about in private ownership. Cheers Guy
Kind, generous, philanthropic, unselfish, moral, exemplary : just a few adjectives that spring to mind when I think of all of you. Whatever name you givel the motive, it's always a good one. Thanks, people. You are really worth knowing. Philippa
Thank you, Guy As one of the names that I am researching is fairly uncommon, I also pop it into eBay from time to time. That is how I laid my hands on an indenture for my several great grandfather. A solicitor had died and their estate was being sorted out with some really old documents being sold off on eBay!
Oh well, that put me in my place, not an unusual name after a, something like 15,000 odd found!! STill everything is worth a try
Absolutely! Leave no stone unturned as you never know what you might find. Oh yes - I also pop back from time to time as new things turn up. I also plonk my names into the various search engines to see if there is anything out there - not my "Smith" line though....
Try researching Williams and Jones in Wales! I'm still trying work out whether my husband's gg-grandmother (Jones) actually married two different Jones' men or whether she just had the children out of wedlock - one of my many challenges!
