Well 3 to be precise. Sophia Thorp[e] was born in 1819, in Stratton Audley (Oxfordshire) d/o George and Sarah (Dormer). On 12/8/1839 Sophia marries William Wise in Twyford Buckinghamshire, (just over the border from Oxfordshire). They are together on the 1841 census in Twyford - HO107 piece44 book31 folio3 page1 William is an ag. lab. In 1844 a son Joseph (William's father's name) is registered in Twyford I cannot see any other children. Nor can I find trace of the three of them in any further census. Nor sign of any deaths. Can anyone help?
Found a Wiki Tree. They came to NSW. Their daughter Sara Ann Wise (3rd child) was born at Pretty Plains NSW in 1849. Pretty Plains is 20 minutes from me.
Sophia is buried at Millthorpe, near me. She was buried at Millthorpe 7/8/1896. She died of bronchitis and heart disease. William died in 1900 from Dropsy and Bright’s disease at 1 am 23/6/1900. He is buried at CofE Cemetery Newbridge which is near Millthorpe. If you want me to follow the family let me know. There are 9 children.
Find a grave has Sophias headstone at Millthorpe. It wouldnt let me copy it. They are buried together. We go to Millthorpe regularly for coffee. I'll drop in on them.
Thank you so much AM, no wonder they eluded me. OH's family never moved far from their Oxfordshire roots for generations, so Sophia is the first, I have found, who didn't. I have several of her siblings to trace as well, perhaps they followed suit? I would love the children's names and yob's but will not be following them, at this time. Sophia is his 5th g.g.dad's sister. I owe you the coffee when you go to Millthorpe give them a wave from us. Just as a complete aside, and a co-incidence, MIL was born in a Newbridge, the one in Co Kildare!
They arrived on 4 Nov 1848 aboard the Emperor, Charles born Wyver Bucks age 31 labourer, Sophia 30, Charles 7 Maria 2. NSW Bdm has, Sarah Ann 1849, William 1850, William Henry 1853, Sophia Rebecca 1855 married Fuller, Alfred 1857, Elizabeth 1860, Thomas Joseph 1862. All born Pretty Plains. Will see if anything pops up on Trove
Blayney Advocate 23/6/1900 Obituary. — We regret to record the death of Mr. William Wise, which occurred at Guyong on Tuesday last. The deceased gentleman had been ailing for some months past. He had reached the ripe old age of 82 years, and had resided in the district over 40 years, having came to this colony over 50 years ago. His remains were in- terred in the Millthorpe cemetery on Wed- nesday, the funeral arrangements being in the hands of Mr J. Reed, of Blayney Guyong is just out of town. One of the roads in Guyong is named Rosser Lane after Hubby's uncle.
No. Charles on the manifest age 7. There is another Thomas born 1862 at Pretty Plains. Maybe the first one died. Charles Wise married Mary O'Brien at Vittoria (near Guyong) in 1902 Although Thomas Joseph is the only one I cant find on BDM
Wrong Charles Wise. Charles son of Sophia and William married Sarah Webb in 1862. HIS son Charles married Mary Obrien
There was a brother Joseph (no George) bap 25/1/1824 to the same parents so it is a fair bet he is William's brother.
Post 6 oopsie. I meant William and Sophia not Charles and Sophia. Not a typo. It was a brain malfunction.
I know you arent looking for him but Joseph Wise,24 arrived on the Palmyra in Port Phillip in 1848 with 21 year old wife Matilda.
Have plenty of those myself I will make a note of Joseph and Matilda - the Thorp[e] family are OH's family, but you never know when a snippet could be useful
