Hillary's 2nd Great-Grandparents.

As a 'consolation prize' she would like me - the 'booby-prize' winner to find the parents of her 2nd G/Gparents -Mary Jenkins and James Morgans. I know that they were married in Narberth, Pembrokeshire, Wales in the October-December q. 1852 - vol. 11a, page 953.

On 24 April 1853, a daughter - Catherine - was born and was baptised at Clarbeston on 12 June 1853. Catherine is Hillary's Great-Grandmother. At the time of the baptism - James was a Carter.

By the time of the 1861 census - RG9/4165/50/6 - James, wife Mary and 3 children are living in Wiston, Pembrokeshire. James is an Ag. Labourer.

1871 census - Wiston - Ag. Labourer - RG10/5529/6/6 - Catherine is not with them. She is working as a Servant - RG10/5529/21/1.

1881 census - Wiston - Farmer of 32 Acres - RG11/5419/134/5. I know this is true as Catherine married 5 September 1880 and confirmed her father's occupation.

Until their deaths - Mary between 1901 and 1911 - and James between 1911 and ? - they lived in Wiston.

Part of the challenge is not to buy certificates so I am limited to researching on line - hence the 'booby prize for the big booby'.

James Morgan (sic) age 25 born Llys-Y-Fran - Anc has his pob in 1861 as Lleysyfrane.

 

If the above is your James then he can be found in 1841 in Llys-Y-Fran
HO107 piece 1445 book 13 folio 3 page 3 (as James Morgan)

Annoyingly not with his parents!

 

Mary says born Clarbeston on the 1861 census so this looks like her in 1851 working as a servant at Robleston Hall, Camrose

James s/o Mary Morgans - abode poorhouse - single woman

It looks like Thomas died in 1851 (just before the census)

Clarbeston - 26/2/1851 Thomas Jinkins of Knock Moor was buried age 54 (b1797)

 

If I read you correctly, you have obtained a burial transcription for Clarbeston. I presume there are also baptism and marriage transcriptions as well. Can I ask where you found the source of this detail?

FMP has Pembrokeshire Banns, Baps, Marriages and Deaths, transcriptions and originals

No sign of a marriage Thomas Jinkins/Jenkins to a Catherine though

 

It looks like the Clarbeston marriage records do not start until late 1830's and the baps for early 1900's

Kick-starting this thread.

Am again looking for the maiden name of Catherine or Catharine who produced the 8 children found by Molly May [post #5]. FMP has the surname transcribed as JINKINS and Anc. has it JENKINS.

Of the 8 children I managed to find baptisms for a CATHARINE dau. of Thomas and CATHARINE JENKINS in Clarbeston 26 May 1839 on Anc. but have not found a birth reg. to match.
As for the other children I have baptisms for
Hannah 29 Oct 1826 - New Moat, Pembrokeshire
Benjamin 21 Dec 1828 - Clarbeston, Pem.
Martha 24 Jul 1831 - Clarbeston
Thomas 25 Jun 1837 - Clarbeston
but Esther and Sally's baptisms have not been found.

In addition in New Moat there was a baptism for an EVAN Jenkins 23 May 1824 which could be another of their children.

 

Not sure about this one. I am awaiting the marriage certificate for the marriage of James and Mary 4th q. 1852 in Narberth - vol. 11a page 953.

Census images after their marriage indicate James Morgans was born c. 1822
in LLYS Y FRAN [or something like that]

Assuming the place of birth for Mary was Clarbeston, Anc. has a baptism in Clarbeston for a William Jenkins son of Thomas and Catharine 16 Jan 1820, however there doesn't appear to be a baptism for Mary there.

Could William be a brother?

 

Martha is with her parents in 1841 but cannot be tracked as Martha Jenkins in 1851. Her father Thomas died 1st q. 1850 and her mum was enumerated as a widow with 4 children in Clarbeston - no Martha - so this leads me to believe Martha may be dead or married prior to 1851.
The census was held 30/31 March.

There are possible marriages:
3rd q. 1850 - Martha Jenkins and John John - vol. 26 page 841
4th q. 1850 - Martha Jenkins - William Thomas, Thomas Davis or James Morris - vol. 26 page 1035.
District was Narberth which includes Clarbeston
I wasn't able to find such a person with a husband in 1851.

As for deaths between 1841 and 1851 census date in Narberth there are 5 with no indicated year of birth:
1st q. 1844 - vol. 26 page 538
3rd q. 1844 - vol. 26 page 416
3rd q. 1844 - vol. 26 page 407
2nd q. 1847 - vol. 27 page 661
1st q. 1851 - vol. 26 page 546

I was hoping that Clarbeston burials may have been somewhere on-line but so far I can't locate any.

Suggestions on how to proceed welcome.

one witness is Evan Jenkins - spouse John Parry

This one is odd
24/3/1874 Esther Jinkins marries as a spinster but names her father as George Evans - spouse John Thomas no Evan Ji[e]nkins as a witness
