Hi I am now trying to trace my Mothers side of the family. Mum was born 2/03/1933 and sadly died 10 years ago. Her Mother was May Russell (formally Hudson) and Father William Russell. Grandads Mother was a tyrant whose maiden name was Tedstone and I am trying to do some research into this sideof the family. They all came from Birmingham
Hi Jules - do you have a copy of May and William's marriage certificate? If not, you can order a copy from the GRO for £9.25. The reference is: March quarter 1930, Birmingham registration district, volume 6d, page 271. You would only have to put May HUDSON in the name section. If you click here, it will take you through to an article that tells you what you can expect to find on it.
Not sure how much you have Jules but this is all available on FreeBMD Marriages Mar 1900 Russell William Birmingham 6d-123 b. 1869 Tedstone Harriet Birmingham 6d-123 b. 1877 ................... Fantastic and what a fast response.Harriet really was a horrible lady and I remember her because of it! My Granmas side The Hudsons are a bit illusive. May Hudson born 16/11/1903 (my Grandma) married William Russell. Any clues on nans side?
Do you know what her parents' names were? If not, the marriage certificate that I mentioned in post #2 will give you her father's name and occuaption, which will help to track them down in the 1911 census.
I know her Mum was Phaobe but nothing more. I am slowly getting used to things but find it hard to get around the details. Many Thanks for your help
I know you say your grandmother was I have looked through the GRO index and can't find a registration in December 1903 for a May Hudson. Maybe she was one of the following? There were 2 registered in March 1904 May Hudson - Walsall - 6b - 772 May Hudson - Pickering - 9d - 457
Yes. She had a sister Phoebe(like her mother) another sister rose brothers Tom and Ive forgotten the other one. I didnt know she had come from Walsall. I think maybe that is why I had problems finding her because I was specifically looking for 1903
Phew! I think that I have found them in 1911 (Ref: RG14, PN18180, RG78,PN1099, RD385, SD1, ED33, SN93) Robert, 55, Night Watchman, b Birmingham Phoeby, 52, married 30 years, 11 children, 7 still living, b Birmingham Rose, 29, daughter, Electro plate worker, b Birmingham William, 24, son, Plumber out door, b Wolverhampton Thomas, 19, son, Sailor, b Birmingham Florence Anna, 17, daughter, Electro plate worker, b Birmingham Maud, 14, daughter, Sorter sweet factory, b Birmingham May, 7, daughter, b Walsall (ta-dah!) Living at 123 Cattell Road, Aston There is also a very faded entry that has been crossed out on the record that could be for an Allen or Alban Hudson, son, aged 28. Although he was not living in the house, they probably wanted to include him as one of the 7 children still living.

Aha! It looks like it was Albert as he is with the family in 1901, aged 18. Maybe he died.... otherwise the number of children do not add up to the 7 living and 4 dead in 1911. 251 Garrison Lane, Aston Robert, 44, Iron Galvaniser Phoeby, 42 Rose, 20, Press worker Albert, 18, Bicycle worker Phoeby, 16 William, 14, Plumber Thomas, 9 Florence, 7 Maud, 4 Ref: RG13, piece 2864, folio 96, page 2
