OK. George Broadhurst, Isaac Snr's father died in 1857. His widow Ann then married William Lowe in 1862 :)

I wonder if this Charles White is another child of Sophia who was transported in 1845. She would have been about the right age. Off the track...sorry but this is getting bigger than Ben Hur but more interesting.

An Isaac Broadhurst died Jul - Sept 1890, Newport, Shropshire, age 62, born abt 1828. 1841 and 1851 censuses he was born abt. 1829

Forget that as definitely a different Isaac - he was born Cheshire and married to Fanny.

Not sure about this as his father WAS Isaac but entered as a stone mason!!
Isaac was of Bucknall, Elizabeth Knighton

ETA: OK, think it is Isaac son of OUR Isaac as I've found him and Elizabeth in 1881 where it says Isaac was born Ludlow, which is correct. He seems to have done OK for himself as he's a Builder Employing 8 Men 1 Boy. He did big his father up though as a stone mason on his marriage cert.

WOW you lot have been busy, thank you all very much ;)
I see from the marriage of Ann Broadhurst to William Lowe that William was a rag and bone dealer. Image available on FMP

When Isaac was tried for stealing the cup in 1859 this is how he was described
"Isaac Broadhurst, a rag, bone, and small ware dealer, and a well known character in this town, offered it for sale at a silversmith's in Birminghain."

As I said Isaac was moved to Portland prison on 1st September 1864. 11 days later on 12th September there was a riot at the prison because of the lack of food. Don't know if he was involved though.

Trouble with Isaac is, he had so many aliases his death could be registered under any one of them :(

    Just to add to this.

As we know Ann Broadhurst married William Lowe in knighton on 24 February 1862.

The marriage was also entered in the Hereford Newspaper on 15 March 1862.

William Lowe died on 4th March 1864. His will with probate was proved at Hereford by Ann Lowe, widow and relict the sole executrix. William was described as a general dealer of the parish of Knighton. Effects under £100

There is no will or probate for Ann.

The George Broadhurst who died in 1857 was only 1 year old.

There is a death for a George Broadhurst in 1861 in Knighton in the September quarter.

There is a burial in Llanfair Waterdine on 4th October 1861. He was 70 years old so born around 1791.

Ann Lowe (formerly Broadhurst) died in in 1873 aged 78 so born about 1795
