Likely looking obit ref: Code: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVTZ-5D9Z Staten Island, NY. No luck yet on military record.

Was a bit worried about that name so did a bit on Catherine Behan. She was born Catherine Murphy born 1932 died 2002. Then found the obit for John/Jack Behan. Born 21/6/1929 Manchester, New Jersey died 2002 age 69 (My Heritage) Found then in the Staten Island Advance, Behan: John E of Manchester New Jersey, formerly of New Dorp 29/5/2005. Beloved husband of the late Catherine nee Murphy. Father of Catherine, Nora, Beth, Sean and the late Ginny. Interred at St Peters Cemetery. Saved the link if you would like it!
Not really. I was thinking that John was within the age range for the draft that started in 1942 (after Pearl Harbor in December, '41). Still haven't found that he served. I don't have access to the draft registration data anymore. Looks as though Wendy and Sue have been on the case in Staten Island. That John Behan has the wrong birth date and location. Back the drawing board.
Do I have the wrong John/Jack Behan because the obit says that he had a brother the Rev Thomas Behan and a sister Virginia Mills. Family Search, although only a cursory look has 1930 census with the above John Edward as father Thomas mother Virginia and a 2 year old sister Virginia.
The ones found above I don't think are Hugh's. He was born too late! 1920 census has Thomas Behan born Ireland 1886 Jennie Behan born Ireland 1881. Could this be Jane? Catherine 1912 New York John 1913 New York. Is this him? Anna 1915 New York Thomas 1918 New York
I found this interesting but have a notion is not him as this guy had a brother William and mother was Johann. John (Jack) Behan was a famous dog trainer who founded Canine College, Manhattan died age 72 (would make his birth around 1818 though) From New York Times 13/3/1991
There are two possibilities on findagrave. One died in 1987 at De Witt, Onondaga, New York, wife Grace Doherty Behan, no children, birthdate unknown, the other died in 1946 at Brooklyn and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery. Again birthdate unknown. Could it be that John is still alive?
Barb & Sue, it's not necessarily wrong,..the info in bold seems to have come from some-ones tree so maybe not gospel. Could be that person has mixed two chaps together. I hadn't seen a 2nd initial given him before. I had a note on my trial Family Historian the other day from a person on My Heritage. very minimum info & badly sourced due to different spellings of his name.

Another stab on Family Search after Barb mentioned the draft. John T Behan. Fort Jay, New York. 10/4/1942. He was single and his occupation is listed as unskilled longshoreman and stevedores As his Dad was Thomas and a longshoreman.....I wondered if this might just be him
Worth a shot. wish we could find his marriage, may help somewhat. Darn that silly company who gave me the wrong subscription!!!! Birth year on the above is 1912 but could simply be because he was asked how old he was! Census says Estimated ! must away & sort a few things.
Found a Military serial number for a John T Behan on Ancient Faces. The same John T Behan mentioned in post 14. Can't access the records though.
Found John T Behan, maybe him! AmericanBattleGraves.com John T Behan New York 32312066 US Army 59th Armoured Field Artillery Battalion WW2 Died 2 October 1944 Purple Heart Burial: Plot J Row 7 Grave 65. Sicily-Rome American Cemetery Nettuno Italy
Sorry the date of death was 10 Feb 1942. Date back to front, the American way On the New York WW2 Honour List he is listed as Killed in Action but there is no next next of kin for him.
On family search ww2 army enlistment records it gives John T.Behans education Level as Grammar school.
