It was billed by Microsoft as an update. OH downloaded it a couple of days ago and it has caused all manner of problems. He has had to roll back to the previous version as this latest is full to bursting with bugs. Microsoft seem to issue patches and fixes when they get lots of complaints about it not working with this or that application. We cannot see our external disc and it has played hav oc with other applications. Best not to install until they sort it.

My Windows 10 has updated several times during the last month or so and I’ve not had any problems. It maybe you have ‘moved’ some programs from where Windows expects them to be and not done an update correctly on them.
I often wonder why some people have problems and I’ve never had a problem with an update. My UPS had a funny moment the other day and decided it had no input voltage and suddenly crashed the computer, but upon restart it went through a process the took about 20 minutes to recover, but no other problems.

Hmm OH was an IT professional before retirement. He hadn't moved or changed anything and thought it was a routine update. After the installation he noticed some problems and went online to check it out. Seems he wasn't the only one to find a problem following this update, lots of people complaining about it and a recommendation from one of the main IT magazines not to install until they have fixed the bugs.

Seems a lot of companies are always doing updates faster than they fix the glitches! My daughter had no sound on her I phone for a few days last week until they did an update to fix the update.

My brothers Windows 10 did an update last week and permanently turned of his wi-fi connection on his laptop for Windows 10. He took it to the IT man who said there had been quite a few occurrences of that happening since the last update. IT man got on to Microsoft who suggested my brother use an Ethernet cable till a patch was ready.

Brother has now gone back to Windows 8

I have two laptops, one on windows 10, the other on windows 8. I had updates for one just over a week ago and for the other a couple of days later. In bothe cases connection to my HP printer was removed and I had to install some new App (I hate Apps) to be abel to print anything. after an earlier update a couple of months ago my windows 10 machine at irregular intervals tells me it can't make a connection to the internet and I have to restart my router (whereas the 8 machine is happily connecting. There is apparently something I can do to correct this but it involves putting in commands and doing things i'm not too sure about.

Glad to read these comments on Windows 10, I intend to get a new computer shortly so no doubt it will come with Windows 10. Just a question of working out what I should have, so far I've decided on a LED monitor and solid state hard drive (think that's what it's called) and that's as far as I've got other than more than necessary memory and that memory not shared with another function. I used to buy a magazine called PC User which always listed computer set ups in various price brackets that I could use to mix and match, I think I'll have to start checking Newsagents for magazines with articles I can use. :)

Hi Derek, I finally had to accept 10 when I got a new pc abd after I turned a few things off it was OK. It is this latest version which seems to be ill designed. The magazines are a good idea some boffin somewhere will know the answer.

I have had very little trouble with Windows 10 @Findem I guess it's the luck of the draw, though it shouldn't be!

I had my tech jerry-rig this 6 yr. old laptop that now has a pared down version of 10 on it. It has had (in order), Win7, Win10 update, then Win7 and 8.1 again and when my hard drive was dying, Willy put 10 on and fixed it so I was not bothered with that blasted OneDrive "stealing" my docs and photos and shoving them into the Cloud.

He said the secret is........DO NOT sign in with a Microsoft email address (which I did with the new one last Xmas) because MS then "owns you". So he bypassed the sign in and all sorts of stuff. I do know that there will be no other choice down the road, but will face that when the time comes (and Willy does his cosmetic surgery, grin).

I really wish 10 still had the ability to refuse the updates that you don't want anymore.......doesn't seem to be there. Hate that bc I never let it download automatically.......I chose what updates I wanted and did them when I wanted to. :headbang:

Derek......one thing they are not putting into the laptops much anymore is the CD slot........but you can buy a plug-in one for about $40 Cdn. I have two programs that are big and on CD's......FTM and my Canon printer. I suppose I could put them on jump sticks......but durn it.....why should I? Don't feel like paying for a new download when I have the discs.

Another thing he told me was that the new Office Suite was a disaster to deal with so he put the old 2007 back on here. I don't really use it very often and should ask Mark Jose what he would suggest in the freeware world just for doing documents, etc..

After so many problems with MS over the last few years I bit the bullet and changed to Mac two years ago and never looked back. OK so you pay a bit more upfront but the ease of use (once you get used to the different protocols etc.) more than compensates. I'm about to take on a role in journal editing and the required product from Microsoft would have cost me around £190, whereas the Apple equivalent is free.

My brothers laptop has bitten the dust. We have just been and got him a new one with Windows 10

He has left me to set up his emails, insall Chrome and openoffice

Actually it's not that bad. It is set-up to look and act like Windows 7.

I did say the the bloke in the shop that Windows 10 was having some problems at the moment. He said it was due to the free download. This system is loaded at the factory, you even get a memory stick with Windows 10 on it, in case something goes wrong.

Chimpie ..... That's what Willy did!! Basically looks like Win7....took out the junk MS put into 10!! After a new hard drive was installed, neither 7 nor 8.1 would do the required updates!!! MS has totally messed up the buying public!! I just can't face learning a Mac so will stumble on!! Office 365 is a bad one, Willy said so will use my old 2007 or get an open office like you did.
As a segue here, Firefox is crashing a lot so using Chrome more often!!

That's why I went over to Chrome. My brother asked for FireFox till I told him it was having problems and that I now use Chrome.

He now has his new computer up and running and connected to his printer. He is happy :)

Mine is a 6 year old HP Pavilion g6 with AMD and have had no problems at all. It has been on first thing in the morning and every evening (and nearly all weekends) since the day I got it. The only time it hasn't been on is when I've been away on holiday.

Whilst I'm a bit concerned over Windows 10 I'm not overly worried, my son has had it installed for two or three years now so if I get problems I can call on him for help.

My main concern is making sure my new computer is as good as I can get for my price range. My current computer set up is based on the one that the PC User magazine at the time listed as best in it's price range, I exchanged one or two items for those that were listed in the, 2nd and 3rd computer set ups in that price range being stated to be superior to those in the top rated computer. Then upped the memory capacity and took the list in to a local computer shop, the guys there said it was a great set up, gave me a good price and so I gave them the go ahead. When I picked it up after paying for it the guy said "you've got a great set up there, so I came away well pleased.

It has been a very good computer but I think it could do with replacing, one thing I want from it is an improved Microsoft Outlook (Hotmail) speed. Currently I'm experiencing Hotmail being very slow in loading and agonisingly slow in bringing up my emails, although I'm thinking the slowness is probably not entirely my computer at fault but Hotmail itself. For sometime there has been a clickable message on Hotmail, words to the effect of "upgrade to premium" and "advert free", of course it's no surprise that Premium comes at a monetary cost.

Makes me wonder if it's designed to get people off the free Hotmail so Microsoft can shut it down, of course the adds and the videos attached to Hotmail don't help with speed. I'm giving serious thought to using one of my Telstra addresses for those sites (sites like GS) that I feel I can trust and use Hotmail for junk and infrequent stuff.

I have checked my NBN Broadband speed on two different speed checkers and I'm getting 23 mps download which I understand is very good for a "fibre to the node" set up which has copper wire from the node to the house. I understand that if I want to spend big bucks having fibre from the node to the house it gives greater speeds but I think the current speed will suit, I probably just need a new faster computer to get full advantage of the speed I'm getting.

If anything I've stated doesn't make sense don't be hesitant in saying so. :D

I will check with some of my MS MVP friends, but I no longer use Hotmail because I heard that MS was dropping it. Nor do I use a mail program ever since Gates in his infinite stupidity refused to "fix" Outlook Express.....I use my two web browsers to access 3 mail accounts....2 Yahoo ones and Gmail. One Yahoo is my Rogers ISP. Firefox (which is acting up btw) and Chrome are the browsers I use. I believe my Hotmail addy is in that Live Mail or Outlook or whatever the program is....never ever use it.

One major reason (other than not having Outlook Express anymore) is ease of access and most importantly, according to a techie friend........I can't get a virus using a browser because I am literally looking at the SERVER......the mail is never on my computer. That is not to say I don't get malware or spam, but it reduces my chances. He told me that after my "infested sister" kept telling me I had a virus (not many of those any more btw). I didn't. She did. So I blocked anything from her.......life is lovely now. :D:D
