have sent a email to them asking about this as it definitely appears that the way they are showing the result has changed

Had an reply back from South Staffs Reg museum basically saying that they would have no more information than what I have already got (with the help of everyone here) and that it would be a waste of money asking for any research. :(

No, Ted was not called Jim. John Edward was born in 1902 and he was called Ted. Jim is James Edward and he was called Jim. He was born in 1886. The parents were not great at registering the births on time. Dora was my Grandma and she was registered so late that they had to alter her birthdate or there would have been a fine( so the story goes). Their record keeping was not reliable. I do not know why Jim was not on the 1891 census but it does not surprise me at all. I have a large locket that my grandma always kept that was probably her mother's. It had a picture of Jim on one side and Ted on the other
I can give you all the other information re Jim. You have found the right man I have his medals and his "Death Penny" plus the letter from the King that goes with it. His body was not found and his name is on the memorial wall at Tyne Cot Cemetery. I have recently found more specific information about his MGC company the 91st. They were part of 91st Brigade and the 7th Division. He died on the first day of the second battle of Passchendaele. I will try and upload photos but you can always go to my ancestry page which is public now I think.
I did try and give you access before but I am not sure that it worked and I have not had time to research for a while.
Finally don't forget that your Dad's brother was also called Jim and my grandma, father and auntie always referred to him as Cousin Jim. If they actually chose different names it would make life easier.
