As I am new to this please excuse my questions below. I do not know the etiquette yet.
Is there anyone in here specializing in Ireland. Or better yet that can do a lookup in roots ireland. Not sure what/where to look next.
    my two brick walls are
    1) William Reddam in Sligo.
I have him married to a catherine Darby in 1882 and a Sarah McLaughlin in 1866. Can not find anything else, birth, etc.In 82 marriage he is listed as a widower so I take it Sarah died. It also lists his father name as William also. Mother listed as Maria Giblin. Family rumor says family was from UK before sligo and catherine family was from scotland though she was born in dublin. Have yet to find census proof yet and do not know where to look.
    2) Peter William Costello married to a Ellen Kennedy in Killkenny. Someone found the marriage in 1819 at the ossory there. No birth dates of either known.
I appreciate very much any advise. I am a paper tiger. that is, I need to see a copy of what is found. Little trust in someone else's tree.

Hi Ron.....had a thought or two. A very good friend who is not on here (and should be as he was a volunteer for 10 years at the Brampton FHC), is researching both Scottish and Irish relatives. I am going to fire your information off to him and invite him to join here. He is a "fount of knowledge". That post on the PEI group the other day got me thinking outside the box. Thanks!! :)

thanks yes, looks like first marriage, second in 1882 to catherine in which he is listed as widowerer. Hoping someone has Roots Ireland to do a look-up.

Ron.......if there are no Census records for decades, it looks like you may have to bite the bullet and get a membership for Roots Ireland. We can't help if the data is not there. Sorry about that.

Hi Ron & Welcome to Top Dog

I too am a "paper tiger" (nice expression that!).
I had a foray into Irish records last year (Mayo & Sligo) - difficult, but wonderful when you can see the originals.

As has been mentioned, there are very few Census records (the English ordered them all to be destroyed).

These are the (free) websites that I found helpful:
    www.irishgenealogy. ie/en/
    https://registers.nli. ie/
    www.genealogy.nationalarchives. ie/
    http://kilmacteige. com/
    http://www.irelandoldnews. com/
    http://www.from-ireland. net/
(I've broken the above, in case they have a commercial link)

    Happy Hunting!

Thanks, Jane for the links. I, too, have just begun my Ireland search. These will be invaluable websites.

Retype them in to your search bar as Jane broke them either with an extra / or whatever in case they were a link to a commercial site.

I may be wrong, but I don't think there's anyone here that has a subscription to that website Ron. Are you on facebook? I found a Donegal genealogy page and they were very helpful. Maybe there's a Sligo one. Sorry best I can do.

    Ron -
Close the space before the "location" (ie/com/net).

(One of Top Dog's rules is "no direct links to commercial sites" ... or words to that effect! I'm not too good with technology, so I just stick a space in, in case!)

I have made these into non-clickable links. Just copy/paste them into your browser bar. :)
