but somehow I ended up with a Facebook account. I bought something in Sydney on Friday and yesterday (Saturday) I went into the website to register it, which I did. Somehow, unconsciously, I registered for a Facebook account, had a shock when the "Welcome to Facebook" emails arrived, I've checked and it's above board in that it's genuinely Facebook. In the light of the current Facebook scandal I will be very guarded in what I put in to Facebook, so far all I've given them is my email address and my date of birth. A list of names has already appeared, quite a few I recognised, the first was from a lady I've corresponded with, she is the first cousin of my late wife. I'm thinking of putting in my birth place to distinguish me from others who have the same first name and surname as myself. No doubt Facebook's trawling set up has already found that I live in Australia plus other bits and bobs, it would be interesting to know what else they've picked up about me. Amazing what one can do without trying!
I have a facebook account but I don't show any pictures of me and I haven't supplied them with my correct date of birth. Unfortunately no matter how careful you are, if one of your "friends" links into a dodgy site usually that site collects all the information on that person's friends as well. I do like facebook and do visit quite regularly.
Derek, Many sites now give you the option to login using Facebook, you could have done this by accident but with having no Facebook account to log in with, they have created one for you.
