Ellis Island has the above arrivng 11 May 1892 ,age 21. Ship City of New York. Port of departure Liverpool. Nationality English. Line 27. I have clicked the ship manifest but it doesn't show any details only National Archives Microfilms Publication. Not much help when I want to know where the chap came from and who was next of kin.
If you look over to the right of the page, there are other pages that you need to click on. Then you can read all the passenger lists. The National Archives Microfilms Publication page is just the first page.
It shows him as a carpenter, bound for Jersey City. (Family Search) In 1891 there is a John H Rule, carpenter and joiner, living with parents William and Margaret in Camborne. Is that who you are interested in?
That is the chap. Is there an address of his parents? I did what I useally do and instead of his infor there is just -National Archives Microfilms Publication. I have used this site many times and hadn't had that happen.
Have you found the manifest for City of New York leaving Liverpool? More likely to contain home address/family details.
Back to school for me! I shall have to spell -usually-100 times. I have tried a few that are on the side but I haven't found his number yet.
Having given up on the 1892 manifest, I found John Henry arriving 10 June 1921 on the Aquitania, line number 24. States before -1906/1921. (So that means I won't be able to find him in the census.) He was born in Camborne,so I am on the right track. Home is N Y C . Last permanent address was Ann Arbor and he has a wife called Mrs Rule living in Truro. BMD has a marriage of John H Rule to Catherine Elizabeth Eade at Truro in 1901 and she is on the 1911 census living at Truro with a son (1902) and BINGO the address matches the 1921 address on the manifest. She appears to be married and still in Cornwall in 1939.
Now found the neswaper report of John's marriage. I have the right person. That lead me to finding him in 1901 at 47, Lavender Sweep, Battersea, Wandsworth, London & Surrey, England a boarder. Occupation Carpenter and joiner. Now to find his and his wife's deaths. I think that his wife died in 1954 in Derbyshire and a will mentioning the son (probate) bears that out. There is a death in 1943 at Edmonton of a John H Rule born 1871. Whether that is him,I don't know. I think that will suffice regarding John H Rule.
