    Hello,

John Beagley married Sarah Grant in Hartley Mauditt in 1746. Can anyone view this marriage to see which parishes the pair jailed from? I don’t have a christening for Sarah.

Secondly, William Beagley married Sarah Carter in Farringdon in 1716. An online tree says that William was born in Farringdon in 1692 and Sarah was born there in 1687. Can anyone find christenings to validate this claim? Any details of parents, their marriages etc would be great.

    Thanks,

    Adam

Both FMP and Ancestry just have transcripts (no image) which says they were married on 1st March 1746.

Sadly, the marriage register is unlikely to state where they are from. Before Hardwicke's Marriage Act of 1754, chances were that just the names of the bride and groom (plus the date) would be recorded - you might get their parish of residence if you were lucky, but this was not standard.

Printed paper registers did not appear until after 1754, which showed the names of groom and bride together with their marital status and parish of residence. They also noted if the marriage took place by Banns or Licence.

I can find nothing to substantiate this online and so seeing the parish registers would be needed.

The Hampshire Records Office charge something like £37 per hour to search but there might be a member of the Hampshire Genealogical Society who would be willing to undertake a look-up for you. They may be contacted here:

    Good luck!

Thanks to you both. I’ve found more details on William Beagley’s family since but nothing on Sarah Carter, who was allegedly born in Farringdon in 1687. Or of Sarah Grant who married in Hartley Mauditt in 1746.
