    Well, it took a bit to work out the handwriting but "Vulnus Sclopetarian" it is. :rolleyes:

    What is it? Oh yes - gunshot wound!

    Perhaps the victim was shot with a top of the range gun, such as a Purdy, and not cheap one.

    He was wounded at the Battle of Alma in the Crimean War. Discharged as medically unfit, which is where the Vulnus Sclopetarian was recorded - on his discharge papers. He died in 1867, 11 years after his discharge and 13 years after being shot. :(
