    Hello good people,

Sorry, not been about for a while as I have been trying to concentrate on direct ancestors. As usual I have drawn countless blanks so I am (again) straying onto more distant roots.

Lydia LELLIOTT (born MORRISON) 1852, (probably in) Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Lydia married George LELLIOTT (army corperal) on 25 Sept 1867 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Her father: Arthur MORRISON (Master Mariner), date and place of birth not known.
Her mother: Annie ? (nothing else known).

George Lelliott (later George Benjamin Lelliott) was the illegitimate son of Emily Lelliott and born 13 July 1842, in Worthing, Sussex.

    Last record for Lydia:
Lydia Annie LELLIOT (one T) is listed on Family Search in the 1911 UK census as a widow age 59, living in "Kingston & East Southsea, Portsmouth, England" with granddaughter Gladys LELLIOT, age 10.
Unfortunately (despite various spellings and dates) Ancestry cannot locate the 1911 entry but Family Search gives the following referances: "Schedule: 57, Page: 1, Registration Number: RG14, Piece/Folio: 113, Affiliate Record Identifier: GBC/1911/RG14/05542/0113/1".
Lydia's probable death was Portsmouth in 1917 [Ancestry].

    Canada to UK or Ireland:
Lydia and George's first child, George Arthur William LELLIOTT was born in Dublin, Ireland on 15 Dec 1868 but I can find no record of his parents leaving Canada or arriving in the UK or Ireland (obviously this would have been sometime between Sept 1867 and Dec 1868).

Needless to say, one cannot subscribe to yet another provider in the hope that this "might" be "my" Lydia so if anyone can throw any light on any of it ???? ;)

    Phil

Look up Edith Louisa (I think the original says Laura but Anc has Louisa:rolleyes:)
Winslade born 1887 Portsmouth living in Portsmouth.
When you open the original click the back arrow (LH side of page), you will see the Leliots census cover page, go back one more and there is the census page
    :)

The 1911 record comes up on FMP and it shows Lydia as you mention, aged 59, 42 years married having had 12 children and eight now living. Granddaughter Gladys born in Malta. Address is 119 Eastney Road, Eastney. Is there anything else you would like from it?

How do you people do it, it's only been 5 minutes ???

Molly May, was that inside information or wichcraft LOL ?
12 children (I have only found 10), I'll keep digging.
I shall now have to find the link between Lydia and granddaughter Gladys ?
Family Search shows Gladys as born in "Malton" (Yorkshire I think) but it does look like "Malta" ?
Leaving Canada and arriving UK or Ireland would be nice ?

    I am soooo impressed :)

No - as Steve said she appears on FMP, I couldn't find her on Anc. so looked for the next entry - the Winslades, they were there then it was easy;)

As I understand it, birth records in Canada were not recorded by the state until after 1867 (this is assuming Lydia was born in Canada as she states) which makes life difficult.
Perhaps a Canadian census prior to her marriage in 1867 which might tell me more about her parents ?

FMP - It says that she signed herself in. She was Church of England. It was a way of the poor law knowing what religion people were.

It seems in 1911 she applied for poor rate to help pay her rent.

She moved into 119 Eastney Road in October 1909

Ah, the marriage states to be "Episcopal" - (Anglical, so Church of England I think)
