I'm in the process of putting our old local cemetery online.

I'm getting the names and dates of death from the headstones.

I've found a husband and wife, have both their dates of death and his wife's maiden name from the marriage register.

From the GRO death register I have been able to find the wife's date of birth (both parties died post 1969)

I can not for the life of me find the registration of death for the husband. I've even viewed the images for the quarter he died in and nada.

    Any Ideas?

Did he die after his wife? If so could he have died in a different area and returned 'home' to be buried?

The probate index usually gives a person's residence, and place of death if different.

But if you've been through the GRO index and not found him, he might have been misspelt.

It was holiday time - could they have been in Scotland or Ireland?

If it is a local cemetery can you not find the obituary in local newspaper archives?

    There's a John Duggan death Q3 1977 in Sheffield (dob 2 May 1908).
    Maybe?

I know one of his relations, if I see him about I'll ask where he died.

Sorry everyone, I made a mistake. Good job I'm now going through checking all the dates.

He didn't die on 10th July 1977, not sure where I got that date from, he died on 10th April 1997. I've now found his death registration and got his date of birth.
