Is anyone able to transcribe the paragraph in the small writing, on the left hand side please? I've only managed little snippets.
Thank you very much Steve. It's on Ancestry, the search I did was Edward Goodwin, death 1816 Pimlico, Middlesex. The first result is his burial and next is the will.
Not ideal, I enlarged it as much as I could before it got even more blurry then it was too big to snip in one go . As for what it says
Thanks very much for trying MM. I've tried everything. I have a free photo software, but I don't really know how to use it very well. It will just have to be put to one side for now I guess. I am trying to work out if he is one of my Goodwins. He is in the same trade, but that could be just coincidence.
Hi Sis, I've had a look at it on Ancestry, but sadly it's no clearer there. It is clear that this was a nuncupative will, ie. one which is technically illegal as the correct conditions have not been complied with - there are no witnesses for instance; however, John Hatchard, bookseller of Piccadilly (founder of the famous firm perhaps?) has sworn that the handwriting of the the will is indeed in Edward Goodwin's hand and thus administration of the estate was granted to the widow, Sarah. The additional note at the side obviously relates to some condition of the estate, presumably following the death of Sarah (do you have the date for that?). It seems to be dated 21st (?) June 1841 (1847?), but the main body of the text is illegible apart from the odd word. The fifth line from the bottom reads (I think); .....of the said Sarah Goodwin deceased ... the said will having been found (proved?) ... ... to ... his Executor Sorry I can't be of any more help
Thank you very much for trying Steve. I have very little on this Edward Goodwin except for his will, burial, mention in a couple of trade directories and a poll book/electoral roll entry. If I don't find out anything else it has at least confirmed that he is not my Edward Goodwin with a business in Pimlico.
