Received the War & Defence medals today for my Dad, have applied for the Star but no news on that one yet, Dad refused them after the war, saying he had only done his duty but right or wrong, I thought they should be in the family.
Absolutely. They should be kept for future generations. Dad's was in the little cardboard box in which they were originally posted, when they came to me, but I have them in one of those box frames on the wall now (it has a hessian back and pins to secure whatever items you want to show off). It was only cheap from 'The Range'. I felt that they should be displayed, rather than be at the back of a drawer. My grandad's war medals were sold on eBay by another family member. They should have gone to any number of grandchildren/great grandchildren.
When researching my gg grandfather who died in the Battle of Jutland, I came across online an auction record of his medals, have not had the heart to tell my grandmother
