Wishing you all the best and hope they can jerry-rig something up to make it more stable. Miserable spot for a break!! Hugs.
Well the fracture clinic doctor wasn't receptive to the idea of pinning my arm he came up with several negative reasons, one being that the break should heal itself. If the broken ends were aligned I would agree but they aren't. He claims to have seen broken Humerus bone ends 2 inches (100mm) apart in the same part of the arm as my break which have healed without pinning, sounds to me like the doctors equivalent of the angler's "the fish that got away". I go to the fracture clinic next on the 27th of this month for another xray and consultation, unless a miracle happens between then and now I, pretty sure they will find no joining has taken place, on odd occasions I can still feel the floppiness, very unnerving. In the meantime I'm going to email my doctor with my notes and comments of the last visit to the clinic. On August 30th I want to be flying out to Bali for a couple of weeks, so I want my break pinned and therefore healed enough for me to go.
Can you request another opinion? How is the healthcare on Bali??? Seriously, hope it heals up soon, one way or another.
OK-bad things happen- but why do they always seem to happen at the wrong time ? I know there's never really a right time for bad things but you know what I mean! I really hope you get this sorted in time-good luck.
Well, I hope your family doctor goes to bat for you ...that does not seem right and also sounds painful still.
Bummer!! Can you get another opinion or two?? I frankly don't agree with it and it sure must be uncomfortable for you. Hugs, old sock!!
I'm just checking. Are you doing all the things you are told (most of us dont)? None of thisIt's not good physio. What to say but good luck 'fearless one'. Elizabeth
If callus is forming then the bone is being rebuilt without help but it does take a while as the callus has to harden but to be sure that part of your bone will be stronger than any other part of the bone. I was told that I will never break that part of the bone again. Be patient. It will happen but it takes many months. Mine was a spiral break very high near the armpit. The physio built a brace for me from plaster with a split down one side and fastened with Velcro that had be tightened as the swelling went down. It stabilises the bone and also acts as a protection from bumps. I wore that for 3 months. It will be fine by the time you fly out to Bali.
Good news! Xray today reveals the broken ends have started fusing together, the doctor performed some manual tests which show my arm now moves as one instead of two parts. I mentioned to the doctor that my elbow was still sore so she sent me for an xray on it, it's all good. So my Bali holiday is still a go. In the mean time I have some exercises to do, one of which is taking off the sling four times a day and having my arm straight and hanging down, great.
Great news, Derek. The hanging arm is normal. I think it helps align the bone. Do you have to walk your fingers up the shower wall?
