I've just come across this post. My granddaughter's husband is descended from Agathos Daniel Pegg, who was head gamekeeper at Calke Abbey in North Staffordshire. Calke Abbey is a country estate, now is open to the public. I've looked a bit into his family but haven't found a Joseph.

Just looked at the map and Mayfield is nowhere near Calke Abbey but Pegg seems to be a Staffordshire name. They could be distantly related

Hi there! Thanks for your reply! I haven't heard of Agathos Daniel Pegg before. Agathos is not a common name in the family but there could still be a connection. Do you know when Agathos was born?

He was born in 1876 in Ticknall, Derbyshire and his father Augustus was born in 1839 in Melton, Norfolk. The men in the family all seemed to be gamekeepers so must have moved with the job. Pegg must have also been a Norfolk name. If you find a link to Agathos there was an article in the National Trust Magazine last year, he was Person of the Month. You may find it on google if you input National Trust but I'm not very computer literate to send you a link.

I've looked and most Pegg families came from Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Warkwickshire, Leicestershire and North Norfolk

Certainly my Pegg family came from Staffordshire and Derbyshire. But I'm sure there's plenty of others floating around!

Hi again Penny! I've come back to your message as I'm in the process of planning a trip to the UK this year and I'm wanting to know whether Cornpark Cottage is still used as a B&B? If so, how would I book a night there? :)

Also, does anyone know much about the history of Pegge's Almshouse in Ashbourne? Thank you!! :)

All good! I have a fellow on the ground who is finding out some history of the Pegge's Almshouses in Ashbourne. Still looking to stay at Corn Park so I hope Penny can come back to me sometime. :)

I've googled the Almshouses but it doesn't say much except they were built by the Pegge family around 1699 and they have the Pegge family crest on them. I'm sure you've already done the same. They are now turned into holiday cottages. They are very picturesque, I've always thought so when I've seen them.

Thanks so much - yes, I'd googled them too but I didn't know they were built by the Pegge family. I am hoping they are part of my family history! My source on the ground has sent some photos through and they do look very picturesque. He's also finding out some information about them through the heritage society he is a member of. I'll share more when I know more!! Definitely a place to see/stay if I can!! :)

Hi Kirsty - we share Joseph & Charlotte as great x3 grandparents, so I guess we are distant cousins. You may already know this if are in Brisbane, but there is a Peggs Park and Mayfield Gardens in Moorooka. It is the sight of the dairy farm that George James Pegg, son of Joseph, established - just off Mayfield Rd. The park was opened about 10-12 years ago and my father Stuart spoke at the opening ceremony.

Hi Michael, thank you so much for reaching out! From the looks of my tree, we are 3rd cousins. Lovely to meet you. :)

Yes, I know about Peggs Park and Mayfield Gardens in Moorooka. I have driven past there before but I haven't stopped to get out and have a look around. You obviously know a fair bit of history on the Brisbane Pegg family too? Would be happy to compare notes if you are keen!

    Thanks again - Kirsty

Happy to compare notes. Just need to figure out the easiest way to do so.

You could swap email addresses via the private message facility. ;)

Click on 'inbox' next to your user name at the top of the page and there you go.

    Or....

Click on the person's name under their avatar in a thread, then click on 'start conversation' and you are there. :)
