Thank you Ann - that will keep me quiet for a time :D:reading:

There were other Hansens in the same area (Cheshunt/Edmonton etc.), all market gardeners/florists etc and I am hoping to be able to find siblings etc who also came to England. This tree is getting bigger and bigger!

I should add I do not find searching on FS easy these days, so tend to make it a last port of call, I really should persevere more.

Two Danish links that may or may not be helpful:

    English version of Danish Archives:
    Code:
    https://www.sa.dk/en/
My Danish Roots - requires registration, but I think it's free:
    Code:
    http://www.mydanishroots.com/
I cannot attest to whether either of those meet your requirements, but I had the links from searching for my Scots ancestor who worked in the Danish Royal Court.

I also looked again in Netherlands newspapers, nothing for Copenhagen, & I didn't recognise any of the places as near to.
You don't have an age for Hans do you? it may help- or not.

also, it's not known is it ?, if he came to UK direct from Denmark or maybe from USA or even another place in
which I have now forgotten seeing the name several times. :(

Wendy, from the census records Hans was born 1873 in Denmark.
I have not found him (with any certainty - a few sailors with that name) on any census prior to 1901, so the earliest true record is his marriage in 1900.

On Nana duties for the next 3 days, so will be time restricted for looking further at this.
