Ive now scrolled through the transcripts of both of those Ann, nothing. There is one Batchelor family,a Richard son of Thos and Elizabeth, but I think we have scrubbed the Batchelors now. I went with them in the first place 'cos the marriage of James and Mary was close to where they ended up Reigate/Wimbledon. But there are no naming patterns as burt has pointed out. If only they had stuck around long enough to have a child in registration time.

Never mind - it kept you out of mischief for a while :D I wish someone had told my lot about naming patterns, they never seem to follow any kind of pattern known to man :sceptical: I have tried looking for Warrens (I nearly put Wombles :nailbiting:) in Wimbledon in the papers, but found nothing of any use :( x

Well, I have been busy checking whether this be your tree, not mine!:)
    What is your opinion?
We have James Warren from Rushden, Herts in the 1851 for Wandsworth
but we do not have any other members of your known tree there. It would
seem there is no coverage for 1841.
A James marries a Mary Mason at next door Sandon to Rushden. We do not
have conclusive proof that this is the James from Rushden.
Although there are lots of Masons at Sandon, I cannot prove her parentage
    yet.
James Warren has a brother Edward. Your James' eldest child was Edward.
The parents of James Warren 1793 at Rushden were James Warren and
Elizabeth Brown, married at Ashwell in 1775, he of Rushden a witness is
    Edward Brown.
At Rushden James Warren is buried 1829 Jan 8 aged 82 (1747) and Elizabeth
    Warren 1834 Feb 6 aged 83 (1751),
At Rushden 1746 Apr 1?3 James Warren s James & Mary.
James Warren marries Mary Bull at Aston by license 1743 Mar 27.
At Ashwell 1750 May 4 Elizabeth Brown d Edward & Catherine.
At Baldock 1742 Jul 18 Edward Brown of Ashwell & Catherine Ellerton
    of Ashwell by license.

Well, it has more for it than against and also a lot more than the Batchelor one. I only latched on to Thomas because the marriage was in Surrey. I have ordered the death 'stificate for Mary Warren nee whoever, the one who was in the workhouse with Maria in 1841 just in case. She died in 1848. The James of Rushdon was married according to the 1851 census rather than a widower. But now I think I will try to find any evidence of James Warren and Mary Mason living in Rushden. Im still a bit troubled by the fact that whoever we choose Mary Mason or Mary Batchelor, Edward was born in Wimbledon before they were married. If we go with Mary Mason, then she had the child christened on 26 June 1814 and hopped back to Rushden to get married in September.

Oh and I haven't been idle. I think Edmund son of James is in the 1841 a labourer HO107 1062; 1 Merton. Transcribed as Edward. After that he is in Nelson's Field consistently through the censi :). He also has an Edmund and an Edward.

Talking of Rushden (Hertfordshire is my old stomping ground ;) ) I thought that you might be interested in the following.

Follow some of the links through... click on places in the left hand column, then R and then Rushden.

Yes, Sue, you have grasped the situation precisely.
I cannot see that the James marrying at Sandon is any other than
James of Rushden, meaning I have checked out all the others.
I do not know what happened to the brother Edward, born 1779.
I thought I had the Baptism of Mary Mason although it was a fair
way away with sister Sarah, 1791 and 1793 respectively.
Then I thought I had sister Sarah's marriage to Joshua Bennett.
I traced them to him being a coal merchant in Wandsworth dying
in 1844. I found a PCC Will for him and it was all looking good
until I realised wife Sarah had pre-deceased him. I found her burial
in 1842. She was 62! So that blew that!
I wondered whether Mary Mason family were non-conformist, but I
found Herts Archives have a name index. Nothing there. What did come
from that was that James Warren the father was probably a publican!
I will work through the Deaths on GRO to get ages at death for all
James Warren between 1851 and at least 1861 as I cannot pin him
down in the '61, and probably to 1865.

Mary Warrens d 'stificate has arrived. She died at the Lambeth workhouse in 1848, but she was a paid nurse so not an inmate. Age given as 63 but no other clues.

What is the reference for where you find Maria with her?
I have formed a list of all James Warrens from the GRO
Death Index of possible near age. Before I started I knew
the one in Richmond Reg Dist 1852 was not ours as he had a wife
Harriet at Sunbury, but GRO have 0 for his age, so not to be
    relied on absolutely.
Now to see whether I can account for these in Census and PRs.
But that later when I find time.
I am sure you have found your Edmund at Nelsons fields. Well
    done!

    HO107; Piece: 1058; Book: 1; Lambeth Workhouse; Folio: 5; Page: 7; Line: 25

on the same page are a Mary Warren age 55 and Maria Warren age 15 ( which would just about be OK allowing for rounding down). What do you think?
If that was Mary she was buried at Lambeth St Mary 7 July 1848 age 62[/quote

It looks right to me. How sad I bet they are there because James is dead. Thanks so much. I need to find Mary's death to get her 'stificate.

Here they are from another thread.
