Hi there, Does anyone know how I can get information about a Railway Signalman who worked at Knighton on the wales/england border in the 1960s?
Hi Kaytem, welcome. We have our very own Knighton specialist on board. I’m sure he will be along shortly. He might be your best bet. He is rather knowledgeable on anything ‘Knighton’.
Hi Kaytem, I'm not sure how you would find someone who worked on the railway around that time. There is a group on Facebook called 'Knighton & District Memories' someone on there may actually know the person you are searching for, they are a pretty knowledgeable lot and there have been many discussions on the railway. I'll add a link to the page:- Code: https://www.facebook.com/groups/knightonmemories/ I did some research on the Knighton Railway but mine only goes as far as 1938 and is mostly from Censuses and newspapers. Thank you so much for the prompt replies. I was hoping to find a photo of the signal box and maybe the signalman. I think he’s a distant relative, but not managed to trace all the links yet. My dad who is v elderly and not so well is mad about train stuff, so I was looking for something with a link to interest him. He loves old photos. Will certainly try the Knighton memories link. Many thanks.
TNA have some railway employment records but only until 1956. However, their page gives helpful advice on where you might get them from.
Oooerrr @Kaytem that well known online auction site who's name begins with E has a photo of a Knighton signal box from 1976 for sale.
