George CURBISHLEY is with his wife Elizabeth (neé SMITH, formerly MELLOR) in the 1851 census, living in Holy Trinity, Hull: HO 107, piece 2363, folio 917, page 48. The surname has been recorded as CERBISHLEY. They have a daughter Anne, aged 8 and and son Alfred, aged 1. I have not been able to find Anne' birth registration but Alfred's was in Driffield. In 1871, they are at East Ward, Westmoreland as CUBISHLEY and have gained a daughter Jane (born in Sussex about 1857), another daughter Elizabeth (who was the subject in this thread) and a son-in-law. RG10: piece 5271, folio 108, page 22. Alfred is no longer there as he died in 1852, his death being registered in Steyning, Sussex. I have not been able to find the family in 1861 and would appreciate any help in doing so. However, the surname is one that lends itself to myriad variations... CURBISHLEY CERBISHLEY CORBISHLEY KERBISHLY etc and I even found Alfred's baptism with the surname GOBBERSLEY.... Thank you.
In the previous thread I found a possible birth for Ann(e): Did you manage to look into her any more and rule her in or out? I see that I didn't find them in 1861 when I looked for them before - maybe one of the missing bits?
Did not get that far, @arthurk as it is the daughter, Elizabeth, that I am following. However, with the marriages that @Chimp found, it certainly seems likely.
Hmm, not sure as can only see a transcription (FMP) and they don't give references as it is Scotland, but ... 1861: George KIRBISHLEY born 1812 England - Railway Labourer Elisabeth (Wife), born 1819 England Jane (no relationship given) born 1857 Dumfriesshire, Scotland Address: Ovenshank Railway Cottage, Castletown, Roxburghshire, Scotland. Do Scotlands People have the original census to look at? Couldn't find it on Ancestry to begin with, but they have George and Elisabeth as HIRLISHLEY and Jane as RIRLISHLEY. Had to do a search for just George born 1812 England. If this is them, they moved around a lot, but then he probably had to go wherever there was work, or he was sent to work.
Yes, they do have the images. I’ve looked at it and it is just at the transcription says, except I’m not too sure about daughter Jane’s birthplace. Are you interested Jan? I see you got there before I could post Jan!
This looks like her birth (they do like to mangle that name don't they ) Jean Kirkishley 06 May 1856 Birthplace: BONHILL, DUNBARTON, SCOTLAND Father's Name: George Kirkishley Mother's Name: Elisabeth Smith Am sending you an email. I think the fathers profession will prove it, along with the mother's maiden name.
